Why didn't Porsche simply get an exemption? Lotus didn't have to meet safety standards for a few years for its Elise because they received an exemption, up until recently.

Lotus only received that exemption because of the volume (or lack of it) of the vehicles they were selling.
Porsche sells way more cars than that. Tag, what car was that? I'm a little bit of a Porsche fan, and I don't remember hearing about that....like I said, just a little bit of a fan....I worked at the Porsche dealer here in town about 10 years ago, so they kind of became a "regular" car for me, but recently, I've started liking them more (probably has something to do with my father-in-law getting his about 8 months ago....) |

At the L.A. autoshow in November of last year I asked one of the Porsche reps at their exhibition why the 997 GT3 had a sunroof, since it's a track car? The rep said that Porsche could only import the GT3 w/ a sunroof because that's the only specification in which the 997 was crash tested. Otherwise they'd have to crash test the car all over again, which would costs them more. Sounds weird to me, but that's what I was told.
The more these cars are crash tested the more confidence we have behind the wheel. At least that's how I feel, not that that's incentive to drive recklessly in any way. |

Well said. Lets just try not to think of that beautiful nose being slammed into a wall. And we're good.
