heat extractor hoods

Hi folks,

Looking at possibly changing my hood to one with some heat extraction or a ram + HE, not sure yet. I am trying to figure out, how much do the heat extractors actually reduce? I know many variables but 2 degrees or ? I am having issues starting sometimes after the car has been driving a bit and it is super hot in the hood, assuming heat soak on the starter? Won't list all the mods but it is 530 WHP NA so it gets dam hot. Any thoughts ?

Sorry missed your question about how much they actually reduce. I'm not sure. If I was looking to extract heat I would try this route.

I think the heat extractor hood would help out a lot getting that heat out quick. I took the water tray out to get more air in.

read my mods list and buy the starter, remove the center section of the hood to firewall seal with a xacto knife, and make sure you have a good battery that's not around four years old when they crap out...…….( I live in rainy Oregon never gets water in there its a old school trick)…………. and you should find you have no problem, I did other stupid stuff like wrap the starter, zero gauge bypass etc.... But the powermaster starter and a good battery kick Arse….

Hey there thanks for the replies. As for a starter, I did just have my starter replaced when they tested it and showed it trying to pull far more than it needed I guess. Didn't even think about telling them to hold off and me getting an aftermarket one.

I daily mine and I can tell you it was cool watching only the snow behind the extractor melting as I was driving. Proof it was channeling out the hot air.

Another benefit of the vented hood is reducing high speed lift on the front end. It stops the car from feeling like it's going to take off when you are up there in the high speeds

+1 Reduced pressure under the hood at speed.

Also - when I am sitting stopped at idle I can see the rising engine heat rippling up into the air just above my hood vents. Like seeing hot air rise over a hot charcoal grill. Pretty cool to see it working!

I bet if you tape yarn it will suck it in and not blow it out. That area in front of the windshield is a negative pressure area. I have the same issue with my cowl hood on the C6 I made. Works well for cooling but is junk for aero.

I daily mine with a tracspec heat extractor. It’s bigger than the zl1s and has no drip tray, used it in pouring rain with no issues.

not sure how much it would help but you could also check out a lower thermostat here is a good option https://www.phastekperformance.com/2...tat-100229.htm

I bought the ACS ZL1 Heat Extractor and had it Carbon fibered Hydrodipped. I cut my hood myself and did all the work. I think it turned out awesome. I had never done anything like this in my life. We run Watkins Glenn road course and that motor can get real hot. So this is why I installed and what a difference.
