Question about Proximity Key Sensor
I see alot of you folks taking your key's blade out of the black plastic piece on the key and putting them back in the switchblade and it working for you... today i acquired a keyport 2.0 slide and had a blade cut for it, but my car wont start with it. I assumed it was because of a chip in the key or fob, but the car wont start with either near it... the dash is saying service theft deterrent system when i try to start it with that blade.. Is there anything special I have to do to make the new key work?

Like any new "key", you need to program that one in. If you use the same fob that came with your car, that chip is already programmed in and all you need to do is put the blade into the switchblade holder. If you buy a new fob, which is what I'm guessing the "keyport 2.0 slide" is, you'll need to go through the process of getting it programmed for you car. I believe the instructions are in your manual. If they're not they're definitely in these forums somewhere.
BTW - I joined the key recall reversal club over the weekend and I'm loving having the switchblade back again! I do have to admit that sometimes my fingers get confused and look for the regular key when getting into my car. A few more days of the switchblade and that will be a distant memory.

I can't be 100% positive about this but with our cars (pretty much any car that doesn't have push button starting), the chip needs to be in extremely close proximity to the switch, as in millimeters away. For the regular key, the chip is right up next to the sensor in the switch. Basically the same thing for the switchblade. If the chip is a few inches away (as in the fob but not right next to the switch), it may not come on. Again, I'm not an automotive expert but that's how I understand the chips to work.
