Shark fin

What exactly is the shark fin antenna for? Is it just for OnStar? According to the window sticker the radio antenna is in the rear window; is that for XM too or is XM tied to the shark fin?

XM and Onstar antennas are both located in the shark fin.

you got it. I just wish that they would have gotten them in the body color and not just in black. GM has made them the same color on some of their models.

Black fin is on the top of the car and its black and does look like a fin, utilized for XM and radio frequencys.

Well I don't want OnStar and I don't really need XM; if I want to listen to music I can use my iPhone/iPod. So it looks like I can get rid of the fin and have a body shop fill the hole and paint it so my roof will be clean. As long as the regular am/fm radio works with the antenna in the rear window, I'll be good to go.

Thanks guys!

well if you plan to keep the car forever, that is great, or you won't care when you trade it in and there is no antenna for the onstar. Just a thought. maybe have a body shop PAINT the shark fin to match.

It won't block your cel signal if you buy all your minutes from on-star. However if you use a handheld cel phone you will want the ceramic tint because the signals will be transmitted/recieved on that device. Also, your passengers may not get service or if you use a aftermarket GPS. The ceramic based tint is about $50 more than a quality metallic based tint here in Fl.
