And the Charger has returned. Twice. But the pony cars had a broader appeal because they weren't so 1 dimensional. They were still fast, and some had monster motors too. But when power numbers fell like a rock in the early 70's the Camaro still had some fun to offer buyers. The Chevelle didn't, so they morphed it back into a family hauler (the Malibu)

It's a Camaro forum guys!!! We are going to make fun of other cars. I've been to mustang forums and you can't tell me we are worse than them. Huge fanboyism going on there. Beyond the point of just being completely blind.

not alot of people remember this epic thread.
but this was the result of it.

They are losing as much money as everyone else, they just happened to mortgage all of their assets prior to the credit market tightening, and are not in such a bind for cash. But credit them on seeing what others did'nt see ahead of time and knowing when to borrow the money. No disrespect to the mustang, but I question the strategy, most sports car buyers really don't want their car to be associated with a scrunchie for a 12 year old girl...

Why? Because you're not there! Plus, it's been 3 days since the last Mustang bash thread.

What cave have you been living in? The term pony car is as old as the term muscle car (slightly older truth be told), and has been applied to the Mustang since the very early days

This is not the case. Ford is losing money, but they are losing less money overall than several competitors....including GM...and significantly more of that 'lost' money is going into future programs intended to produce a profit than at other brands. For example, right now investors believe that GM's biggest monetary drain is still coming from money losing product already on the market, on the other hand they suspect a larger percentage of the money being 'lost' at Ford is coming from romising programs like Ecoboost and getting more appropriate cars to market. See the difference?

The money GM has borrowed from the US government is getting very close to equaling the line of credit Ford took out. Further, Ford is already in the process of paying those loans back, although nobody knows how much they have paid back thus far. There is not now nor has there been of late anything resembling parity in the financial state of these two car companies.

Mustang has always been marketed to women/girls, I see no reason for this to change now. As for any adverse affect this has on the cars image, the GT500 appears to be doing just fine in that respect so I really can't say that I see the correlation.

I do suspect that the braoder appeal of the Mustang turns off folks in certain segments, most likely this includes people who have a wardrobe consisting primarily of muscle shirts and who still wear a rat tail. To be honest, I would prefer those folks stick to other outlets for their automotive entertainment and leave the Mustang be.

True, but I can't count the number of people I've talked to that deny the female-aimed marketing, saying, "no way! The Mustang's a guy's car if there ever were one!"

Exactly. Those girls are going to want to have a car that matches their purse right?
