$100.00 Backup camera.
Installed a Peak wireless camera yesterday. First two Auto parts stores wanted $129.00, probably get it for well under $100 online. Happy with it so far, has the licence plate mount for the camera. I cut out a notch in the rubber mat for the console tray to hold the display unit in place. Wanted it out of site as much as possible and with the tinted Windows it pretty much is. Easy install.

Wow, I really like this! I would probably have to find a different place to mount it though because that is where I put my phone! Could you post a link to it online? And how did you wire it to only turn on in reverse?

You just remove that triangle plastic piece behind the tail light (either side) when you open the trunk. Fish clothes hanger down to the opening behind plate. Tape camera cable to wire and pull thru. They supply connector to splice another cable into reverse light wire (light green) in the wire harness just behind the tail light. Attach ground wire (there is one right there to the body) Both cables plug into small transmitter. Plug display into 12v outlet and your done.

I wonder if I could mount it to the inside of the sun visor? That would make it easy to hide from potential thieves.

I was thinking of doing that but did not want the wire running up there or take the panels off to run behind them. My street and work are pretty safe and I could just throw a cloth over it or unplug it and put in either glove box if I am
some place I'm not comfortable at. You could mount on visor and just unplug when not using it.

Did you seal the camera up before you installed it ? Reading Amazon reviews that is a major concern . After the first time getting wet and camera fogs up.
Plus a rear pic would be great to . I like it

Does it unplug easy? Could you just unplug it from your mount if your in a sketchy area and throw it under a seat or something?

Yes the display just unplugs from the 12v power outlet like an I pod. The video is transmitted wireless so no other cable. I did read about them getting foggy, how would I seal it up? marine silicon. I will have to look at that tomorrow and post a pic. We just had a little snow but I was down in Fla and have not drove since i've got home today.

Well it got wet today again with some light rain after the snow a few days ago. No fog as of yet. Got some marine silicon today and applied at the seams in the housing and around the lens as it looked like perhaps moisture could maybe seep in there. Will not be able to pivot it now, which is not a concern to me. It should turn clear as it dries. Dirty car from snow, to cold to wash now.

Wonder if the smaller one would mount on the visor? How flat are they?

Pretty flat, between 1/8 to 1/4 inch I'd say. Thinking the smaller one is the same width as the 3.5 inch which should mount in the visor ok, but perhaps not close all the way. There is a link titled installation instructions in the earlier link I posted which has several pics so you can see the complete size of the display unit. Couple of other observations, I get interference lines for a second or two on average about every 10 seconds. Still able to see behind you fine, wonder if top end units don't have that issue. Also when driving the unit lights up on occasion for a second with a blue screen. Might be from other nearby cars having equipment with similar freqs. Probably just leave turned off until I need it which isn't very often.
