Sun roof stuck open

Hey guys...

Just opened my sun roof after washing my car and now it won close.

Don't think it's the fuse, I took it out and put it back in. You can hear a click when you press the buttons like it's trying to close but won't move...

Check the track to see if something fell onto it. Someone here had a similar issue a few years ago.

Try wiggling it at the front edge.
Lots of times the sunroof itself is at a slight angle and is grinding against its own side rails.
Or there can be something in the track.

Also try pushing the open button, then the close button several times in a row.

You can also try GENTLY pulling the sunroof forward while pressing the close button.

I was pretty sure nothing fell into the tracks. I had just washed the car and it got stuck after I opened it to let it air dry a little.

Lol... Sunroof stuck? Just wiggle it.. sure!

Thanks bro you just saved me $60 (inspection). Why on earth is it possible for this to happen? Seems like cheap design for it to become stuck from becoming slightly off center!

Sometimes, sunroof assemblies over time can develop some play... So it may pull back farther than it normally would. This combined with the grease being displaced in the track leads to the sliders in the sunroof rails getting to an unlubricated spot on the slide. Then they bind.

Hey man, you are welcome.

I don't know why they make them like this, I can only guess that it is not so much a fault of the sunroof itself, but that the body flexes ever so slightly resulting in the sliding being a bit off kilter.

I have had this in almost every car I have owned that had a sunroof.

Did you figure ouot what was wrong with your sunroof...I bet you have its been a few years. Mine just stuck open today. I have pulled the fuse and even the switch(pain in the rear if you have never done it). Normally a switch is switch and it appears there might be a problem with it. Wanted to short the contacts but am a little worried not just be a switch. Anyway can you let me know what your problem was? Thanks (2013 Camaro RS)

Similar issue....

I had a similar issue with my 2011 LT. Sunroof stuck open a couple different times. The first time fiddling with the switch open/close got it working again. The second time it stuck I decided it was the switch, so I ordered a new one an replaced it. It was good for about another 4 - 5 months and then it stuck again. What seems to have fixed it for good is some good old Lithium grease. After washing the car I opened the sun roof and cleaned the tracks really good to remove any dust/dirt/grime buildup. Then it put a liberal amount of lithium grease in the tracks and opened/closed the sunroof several times. I noticed the sunroof now appears to move much smoother than it previously did. I also use my sunroof a lot. I'm not sure what the recommended interval for lubricating it is, but this is a good place to start if yours starts sticking.
