Having a hard time at track
For a while now I've been on MT 20", and I'm still stuck in the 12s as an auto. With street tires the best run ive made is around 12.8, with Mickeys Ive been stuck at 12.1 for the last two track visits. Tire pressure all the way down to 18 psi, cooled down for a while, nice decent burnout to heat them up. Problem is that the car surges after launch. Shifts from 2-4 within the first 300ft. I know it has to be hurting my time. Tuner adjusted the shift points and said they were low, but the problem still occurred. Then he stated that the car may be spinning and the computer is trying to play catch up by upshifting to the appropriate gear. Obviously I need help on my launches but Have no idea what I need to do. I feel as if I baby it out the first few feet that it will cost me a lot of time instead of hooking and moving. Any input? My MPH is also low between 108-114, 60' is normally ranging 1.7-1.9. Mods are Headers, CAI, Catback and tune. Stock ZL1s are running lower times on stock tires, Im wondering why im struggling so hard.

Maybe your issue is at step #4. Since you've stated you don't want to do this. You are certainly within the average for this car with your given mods.
Launching a 6-Speed Automatic Camaro ZL1 for the Quarter Mile Without the third pedal, there’s obviously less to think about here, but optimizing an automatic ZL1 for the quarter mile still takes more than simply mashing the gas. 1. Select the most-aggressive PTM Mode 5 setting. 2. Shift the transmission into M mode for manual. This will make the car start in first gear instead of the usual second in normal D mode. 3. Depress the brake pedal with your left foot and, using your right foot, press the accelerator pedal until the engine revs to about 1,500 rpm. 4. Release the brake pedal and roll on the throttle. After just 2-3 feet, you’ll want to be wide open on the accelerator pedal all the way through the quarter mile. While purists might object to an automatic transmission, the proof of how quick an auto can shift is in the numbers. Chevy’s engineers had their best quarter-mile time in an automatic ZL1, running the distance in 11.94 seconds at 116 mph.

Seat time and launching. You still have a lot of practice.

Thats what we are thinking is the problem, so im going to give it some more seat time and do some trial and error to see if it was the problem.

12.1@114 is on the slow side of what I think your car should be able to run. What do other ZL1s run with similar stuff? Your tune or shift points might need some work. Need to log at the track. Took a ton of logging for me to run 10.9 with my mods.

Yea It is quite slow. Honestly I should be somewhere in the 11s , not quite exactly sure. Missed Ryan down here this previous friday, so I will have to wait for him to make another trip here for some logging.

Pull fuse 40 and 43 (ABS fuses).
Heat the tires up and launch just off idle (900-1,000 rpm). Go full throttle immediately and hold it. Keep transmission in M. Practice. |
