I agree with this 100%. In IT, a degree is not always required but it will not it will help the majority of the time. I know a lot of people that simply have experience and or Certs in the IT field. I learned way more from my internship/Part time work than I have learned in my 3 years at FSU. I plan on stopping at my masters and plan to go the Management side of things once I am done.

I should of said "there are tons of opportunities, when prices are normal"

The Oil and Gas industry, and many others, are hurting pretty bad right now with this drop in prices.

Yes exactly!! I learned so much more in my 2 summer internships than I did in 4 years. Yeah I was considering law school, graduated undergrad and said nope. Was ready to start making money instead of spending it.

Luckily my Undergrad is paid for and if all goes well my employer will pay for my Grad. If not I should be able to pay for it. Worst case I have a few thousand dollars in student loans that I could pay fairly quickly.

Mostly everyone on here has a solid job. They know what they're doing. Heck, Freddy has a full time job and is doing great in school. And plans on doing undergrad. Like I don't even know what I'm having for lunch

I've had 3 jobs in the last year alone. Almost up to 4. (I'm promoting myself basically and finding other positions I'm qualified for that pay me more $$!)

You don't need to have your ducks in a row to be successful. But generally it helps.

I will share my story......

I graduated HS in 2003 and went to Meteorology school (damn it was hard) only made it through one semester, so I moved back home and with to Community College until I could decide what I wanted to do. Then I applied to a local college for Geology. Made it to the end of my junior year and though WTH am I doing, I don't want to do this for the rest of my life. Then I changed majors to Business Management, keep in mind I am going into my senior year. Ending up finishing on time in 2007.

2007 was the time when shit was going down and business were not hiring. I ended up getting hired at my dad's company, pretty much doing an interns job (in HR filing paperwork). Worked there for 2 year getting experience and then moved to the DC area because I knew I wasn't getting a job in BF PA. Worked for a Call Center for 3 years recruiting reps and then worked in Pharma. Now I am working as an Admin. Assistant and I still not where most people my age are in their career.

I have a goal, but it is just taking some time.

You're still in undergrad! Do not worry about having your shit together yet. I didn't even know what I wanted to do after 3-4 years of undergrad, I spent 6-7 years in undergrad. Just keep going with undergrad and start figuring things out as you get closer to your senior year. You'll get it figured out soon enough.

I still have some school left and then gotta get my certification to be called a certified pain in the ass... Excuse me public accountant. But even after I get that I have no clue where I want to then direct myself as there are many options. Get into internships to gain experience and figure out what you like and don't like in terms of a career. I got super lucky with my internship in that it was a family friend and they had a position open up which is what happens when a guy with 6 years of experience can't do squat.

Speaking of lunch I gotta figure that out too. Balls.

For my major an internship is more or less required. Or you could take summer classes. I opt for the former. And I can go literally wherever I want. I don't know anything!!

Yeah once you do internships you'll figure out where you want to go. I'll tell you right now that even though there is a ton of money to be made doing taxes, there is so much to learn. But the money is hard to ignore, and after 10-15 years all I would be doing is reviewing returns and supervising audits for $$$$$$ like woah.
