Intake opinions

My car is currently completely stock, however I have the SCT X4 tuner on it's way (from RDP) and am looking for opinions on intakes I was originally thinking Vararam, but I see that RDP seems to like the Rotofab. Looking for pros and cons of either, of if anyone has any recommendations for a different one. Thanks!

Cold Air Inductions is one of the best, thats the one I have.

You're gonna get a bunch of different answers when it comes to intake preference, the top 4 will most likely always be Vararam, Cold Air Inductions, Rotofab, and the Z28. Janetty did independant testing between most of them (not including Vararam IIRC) and found in both test that Cold Air Inductions (CAI) came out on top, especially when paired with a scoop of some sort. That is the route I opted to go after seeing the data speak for itself. CAI intake with Janetty race scoop.

The gains between all will be similar no doubt, so really it comes down to price and looks in my opinion. Some people like the look of Vararam, I personally think it's hideous. CAI looks the best in my opinion, another reason I chose it. It retains the factory location but is sealed off to isolate and keep the IAT's cooler with a sort of lid that utilizes a plexiglass so you can still see the filter. Looks awesome and can customize it a bit, I added the Camaro fender lettering to it and enjoy the way it turned out. Both Rotofab and the Z28 look a bit too stock for my preference. If I pop the hood, I want it to stand out and they don't really do it for me.

It all really comes down to preference, the CAI intake nails it in every category for me so that's what I chose and ultimately what I end up recommending to others based off of Janetty's test and my experience with them. The CAI crew are a bunch of awesome guys too, had the pleasure of meeting them at Camaro Fest 7 last year.

Vararam actually has better performance than CAI but will only fit on the first 2 or 3 years production of Camaro. Vararam would be best for your 2010...

I say we start a gofundme for independant testing of the CAI that can actually be shared with us. I always hear people say what is the best, but never seen cold hard facts. No tunes, no other mods, same IAT, everything the same, would be nice to let a Dyno decide this question of what CAI is best.

Also is the big gulp worth the cost? W/W relocation?

2nd vote for the Vararam intake. Jsut really hate their oem screws. one broke off during install. I havent used any mounts. it holds extremely well. I definetly notice a difference at high speeds. can hold more constant power ( with headers ) before it was better not perfect

It’s been done. Jenetty did a complete spread sheet for every brand except Vararam. It doesn’t fit on every year Camaro.

The best hp gain on his testing was CAI.

Ya that list didnt have the Z/28 or the Vararam on it. I think its time to do that test all over again to also include cai not sold on Camaro5.

Anything you install would be an improvement over stock unit.
