Tuning out Deceleration Exhaust Popping

LS3 normally make an exhaust popping and gurling sound during deceleration and the sound becomes even more noticeable and louder with an exhaust mod. I happen to like the noise but others find it annoying. The popping is caused by the DFCO (deceleration fuel cut off) and is a stock feature of the LS3 (maybe L99 as well?). Other than for sound suppresion, what are the benefits of tuning out the popping?

This is just a guess...but wouldn't tuning out the decel pop mean fuel would continue to flow during decel, therefore, no more popping? If this is the case, then the downside to tuning it out would be a tad bit worse gas mileage, correct? That's about the only negative I can think of.

Hmmm...is that true? More fuel? I'm going to my dealer on Wed to have this tuned "down"...

Yes, that is actually an accurate guess. Defeat or alter DFCO and fuel will keep flowing which is not bad, just resulting in slight reduction in MPG, much like when AFM is tuned out in L99 cars.

Noise is pretty much the only reason. It's usually also tuned out when logging during the tuning process just to get better feedback from the engine, but usually DFCO is turned back on after tuning is done.

you are correct, slightly worse gas mileage. I lost about 1.5 or 2mpg when I tuned it out. however, there is a way to adjust the DFCO parameters so that it cuts the fuel on decel without popping (agressive parameters), but determining those values can be time consuming.

Thanks for this post, by the way. I was wondering what was wrong with my exhaust, but I guess it's the DFCO, something not found in the crappy cars I've had in the past.

I can't stand when grown men want to tune out or get rid of things that are a must on a CAMARO SS/RS. Remember SS stands for Stock Sucks. Lol
