Surprising dyno results after cam

Had my cam installed a few months back, dyno'd it yesterday at a bbq/meet up.

Car put down 389 rwp. I was certainly not expecting it to be this low. I know most people will run mid 400's and even closer to 500 depending on set ups. My set up differs from the general builds in that I have shorties/high flows instead of LT headers, a stock intake manifold, and no udp. Other than that it's a standard bolt on deal.

I am going to swap to LTs, but can anyone offer any input s to why the car was so low?

Cam is a ss2 VVT cam from gpi

Each dyno is different. It is just a number at the end of the day. That is a strong setup you have and the LT's will make a small difference but not more than +-7-10whp. I suggest you go the the quarter mile and see the MPH you get. That is the true indication of power. After that feel free to dyno tune your car at ECS or JRE and see ... Best of luck and enjoy!

I actually did track it once. With street tires and stock converter it was 12.4. This happened to be my first ever pass, no other experimenting followed. The 60 foot was sluggish at 2.4 or 2.5 I don't remember, and I didn't try any launching techniques other than mashing the gas

I just had this installed last week. My car made 454 rwhp and 423 ft/lbs on the first pull. Tuner dialed it in for 442 rwhp and 412 ft/lbs on the corrected pull. Dyno was a dynojet.

What type of valve springs did you install? What octane was used for the tune? Did or do you data log?

I don't, but Jerry who installed it should. In terms of valve springs it's everything that's a part of the kit from gpi

I think LTs would give a good 10-15rwhp(shorties are choking you big time with a camshaft) along with another 8-9 for the UD.

I have the SS3 VVT. I have TSP longtube headers with off road cats, Airaid Cai, Vmax throttle body and tune before install with no baseline. After SS3 VVT cam kit install, Circle D 3800 Stall and dyno, I am only putting down 411 hp. Really disappointing number for my setup. 2 seperate Dyno tunes and car still runs like hell. Honestly felt faster before cam! Waiting on Ryan to send me a data logger to get his tune. Has to be a timing table issue.

What dyno was it. Mustang dyno usually has lower #'s. So, you are saying you have a mail order tune and dyno was just to see your numbers? My suggestion is to get the long tubes and have it tuned properly on the dyno.
