DFW to Nocona, TX FUN Run August 12, 2017

Been trying to put together a decent event for a while, hopefully weather will cooporate vs the last event we tried...

I got a call from a buddy in the Tulsa Vette Sette. Apparently they make 2 fun runs per year to Nocona, TX to do a run on some fun back roads and make a day of it. He suggested I get a group from North Texas to join if anyone was interested.

Plan is to meet up in North DFW. (Probably Lewisville) the morning of Aug 12 and head up to meet the Vette Sette in Marietta, OK. around 1000 or so.
This town is about 1.5 hours north of Lewisville on I-35.

From there we take the back roads to Nocona, Tx and end up eating BBQ.
After that it's a tour of Horton Auto Museum.

I've been by this place, but never been in it. Looks really cool and quite a few car clubs visit this place as a destination!

Late afternoon you can either high tail it back to DFW or do one more run with the Vette Sette and dinner at Prime Cut Steakhouse in Montague, TX.

I'll have more details later this week, but wanted to get a gauge as to how much interest there is in the event. I've got a few local Z/28ers that already sent me a text and are in.

Hope y'all can make it!
Let me know.
Chuck

More info on the day.

Lewisville, TX to Marietta, Ok
https://www.google.com/search?source....0.2YbMyB_scyI

A little over an hour drive north on I-35.

Vette Sette will be in Marietta around 1000 or so.
Fun run on back roads to Nocona. Back across the Red River on roads which I can't even find on the map!

Lunch will be at Fenoglio's BBQ in Downtown Nocona.
Looks like a pretty cool little place!

More from Trip advisor

Horton Museum tour after.

After that, option to bug out and get back home or join Vette Sette folks later for dinner at Prime Cut Steakhouse.

Sounds like they will be staying at the Veranda in old downtown.

From texts with local folks, I think we have around 5 in our convoy right now.

Hope more can join!

I am planning on going. It'll be a good time to have that many Zs on the road together and to hang w/ the Vette Sette guys/gals, see museum, etc. :-)

Snowman,
Send me a PM and I'll put you in touch with Styron who's coordinating the Vette Sette route. He can give you the details on intercepting them on the way down.

Justified, monster, glad y'all are able to make it!

Ftrusty, Mark_Z28, and Hammdo also planning on meeting up, so we should have at least 6 of us rolling north.

Looking forward to it!
Chuck

I'd bring my 69 but no air, I did the Texas 100 last October from Grandbury to GlenRose and it was too warm then, I like road trips! done at least a dozen HRPT since '99

how many you think will hookup in Lewisville?

I'm still around, I've been riding my road bike to work and back every day, so 39 miles a day..a little tired at the end of the day. Between that and I left the computer in Dallas and it took 12 days to get it...I've just not been online much.
My issue is the previous weekend to Nocona is the Walker family reunion (mom's side of the family); and we're taking the Z to it this year; so I'm not sure I'm game for two long trips on successive weekends. I had a blast in Dallas..although the roads are kinda crazy. I managed to make it back without ever meeting John Law..so it was a great trip.

As an FYI the vette sette folks are calling this trip a two day trip; and they're staying overnight.

Larry!
Good to have you back man, some say you never left!

Yeah, Vette Sette is staying at the hotel I left a link to that night after the Steak Dinner. I think most if not all of our crew will head back since we are relatively close.

Still trying to coordinate a time to meet up in Marietta. Looking at the map, better route would be to jump east a little and head up 377 all the way to 32 in Oklahoma, then head west to Marietta. Looks way more fun then just shooting up I-35.

More to come.
