Key Problems
I wanted to see if anyone else has been having issues like what I have seen with my key. Example, the lock button. Press it once and it locks, twice and it honks the horn. Lately i hit the lock once and it beeps on the first lock, almost like the button is sticking.
Next, on unlock, the first time I hit unlock when it is dark, the headlights come on. Lately I have to hit the unlock multiple times to get the headlighs on. Is there a proximity sensor that tells the car to turn the lights on if I am farther away but not when I am close? Has anyone else had these issues? If so how did you fix it? Is the key covered under warranty? It has not been dropped or smashed to my knowledge. |

I've had the light issue, but I don't believe it's an issue per se. Btw, I think the lights come on depending on how long you push the button, but I'm not sure.

And, yes if you're truly concerned about it, it would definitely be covered under warranty.

So for the locking and honk problem, do you think the buttons could be sticking? I can't imagine how they could be though.

Mine seems to do this at random too. Sometimes honking after first lock press, sometimes unlocking both doors with one press of unlock, sometimes turning headlights on. Doesn't seem to have a pattern, just ramdomly decides what it wants to do.

From my Tahoe to my Camaro, both pick and choose when they want to use their perimeter lighting. I some times find myself relocking the doors and kindly asking my Camaro outloud to "try again," and then hitting unlock again... usually works!

you can change the lights or horn in the radio config button. Have you tried it?

keving, there is a section in your owners manual that explains what TooCool5 was getting at. It's a portion called Vehicle Personalization in section 5 on page 41 where you can personalize the feed back from the RKE system (remote keyless entry). If changing the settings here doesn't help with what you're seeing I would suggest having the vehicle checked over by your dealer to try and address this. I hope this helps.

Thanks guys, I do know about the settings that can be changed, but they were not changed when this started happening, and actually have never been changed. I will take a look at the settings though.

+1 on key lock issue. Push lock button once and sometimes horn honks and sometimes it doesn't. Have not made any changes to the vehicle setting. Will have dealer check out key FOB at next oil change.

The lights seem to come on when you press unlock depending on how much charge the battery has. Like if youre battery is on the low side the computer will leave the lights off. If you press it a few times though they will eventually come on. Ive noticed this if Ive had the car off with the radio playing for say 20 minutes, then I press unlock and the headlights wont come on. If I just turn the car off with no accessories running and come back the lights will go on.
It is also dependent on whether its dark enough out for the auto headlights to go on. |

xtreme, you might want to have your dealer take a look at your fob to see if they might be able to fix it or possibly see if you might be covered under the Canadian bumper to bumper warranty. Hopefully that gets you fixed up and if you need additional help let me know!

Remember these keys are programmed. Take both of them to the dealer to have them checked out.
