I wonder if I can just drive my wife's car to the dealer and pick up the new keys/fobs? This way I can leave my car (and existing keys) safely at home, away from their grubby hands. I would only be concerned that they won't give out the new keys without receiving the old ones in exchange. The only way I'll be getting the new keys is if I get to keep my old ones and the old ones keep functioning.

I can see it now. Salesman to prospective owner: "I'm sorry sir, we can't sell you this Camaro. You're all knees." LOL

Any better than this? Seems like it is not going to fix the problem. The only real fix is going to be switching to Keyless start so that nothing sticks out were it can be bumped. It is great they are trying to fix an issue but at least fix it in a way that really would fix the issue.
Agree. You can inadvertently bump a key also.

I "assume" this affects every Gen 5 Camaro?
https://my.chevrolet.com/web/portal/_warrantyandrecalls link does not show my VIN having ANY recalls. Probably just not updated yet.

Hopefully the chip will be in the key. The other thing after I posted will the aftermarket alarm work or will I need to take in to have the alarm reset.

What a joke this is if we're going to have to switch from the cool switchblade keys, to a basic metal key that looks like something you'd get at the airport if you asked the Hertz rental desk for the cheapest car possible.

The switchblade is already kind of old fashioned already (Audi has had a near identical one since 2007) as manufacturers switch towards keyless start/stop. Now we get a freakin' valet key from a 2002 Impala? And get to carry two different things in our pocket?

I'm in the market to trade up my 2010 SS to either a 2014 SS convertible or an Audi S4 this summer, and my decision just got a whole lot easier. :-(

Such love for a... Key? Really!?!? Dude's it's just a key not a personal appendage.

Ohhhh Volkswagon has the same style key... wont they have the same issue? WTH? I don't drive with my knees either... I like my cool key...

Think this through:

The company will change the Camaro key to a standard design from one in which the key is concealed in the FOB and is opened by pushing a button. The change will make the ignition key and FOB independent of each other, so that inadvertent contact with the FOB won’t move the key from the “run” position.

They are changing the key and not the lock. They say the issue is the key design, not the ignition design

That is exactly what I'm going to tell them to do. TELL THEM, not ask.

I'm going to use the current key period. No one ever drives my car but me. However, in the rare circumstance that someone would have to, I'd like to have the new key available for them to use.
