I haven't seen the F35 in the flesh yet but the F15 is a loud mofo. When we were in the UK we lived right under the approach to RAF Lakenheath.

VFA-101 is down there. They also have a bunch of A/B models, some for test some for training.

They seem to be louder than 15s but only half the size. They give the 35s a run for their money in terms of noise output.
When I was working at PAX the 35Bs were quite loud in the 'transformer mode' with the toilet bowl open.
yea when they go to that hover config they're very loud.

Yea, several different units. Pretty sure there are a few RAF ones, too.

No, its a fat ass pig of a fighter trying to fly on one engine so that single engine is a ****ing beast but the plane is so heavy its still not enough.

Yeah except ROE does not allow for BVR engagements. And even on the off chance that they do our pilots still go in for a visual to make sure of what they are shooting at.

There is no arguing with that but just based on the technology they are developing/integrating BVR engagement seems to be their priority. I am not saying it is right or wrong.

I was down at Eglin last week. Our airline just started flying there, and I did one of the first flights. Saw a bunch of F-35s. That's one butt ugly airplane.

Storms over the Midwest today with tops of 65,000-70,000 feet. Good excuse to go up high... That's FL490 and M.89-90.

Airman Magizine was out at Dover AFB a few months back, and snapped a photo of me as the right scanner while unkneeling the aircraft. It really contrasts the size of FRED compared to a person!
