PA tint

I just purchased my 2ss this past Thursday and yesterday got pulled over for the tint being too dark. The tint came directly from Chevy and I did not put any on myself. I can understand where the officer is coming from because it is BLACK. He suggested I take it off within the next 5 days and have it reexamined. I do not want to tear my entire car apart for this process.

Is anyone in PA that has their car registered as something else (ie: classic, collector, street rod), and has their windows tinted? I am going to speak with my state rep on Monday, but I am not sure what questions I should ask or what solutions to offer.

Your out of luck. There is NO exemption for tint in PA on a passenger vehicle (behind the driver is exempt on suvs,sw, ext cab pick ups). Chevrolet does not manufacture passenger vehicles with window tint. Your tint is aftermarket meaning someone put film on after it came from, in this case Oshuwa.

If your tint is a film applied to the glass, it's not OEM.

Yea.. someone did it if the car is dark.. the factory is like nothing. The tint on my last vehicle was not even that dark but got stopped cause 'i stand out in the crowd' situation once, my other little tickets and run-ins the guys said nothing about my tint. So the one that did, I just removed the front drivers/pass tint, go show them.. pay the small fine, and wait a week or so and go get it redone. :P

its really totally up to the officer if you get stopped..

I have had 35% on my cars for years and been ok around the Pittsburgh area. While I know they could stop me for this, it seems to me that 35% is ok, but any darker and they give you trouble. Just my personal experience.

The law states nothing less than 70% on back and side windows. Nothing on the front, no colors or reflective coatings. Although I've been seeing more and more cars with much darker windows. Most cops don't seem to care as long as they can still see in your car.

AHHH i guess ill have to rip the door windows off .

2 questions...

Anyone have a medical card/slip saying that they need the tint for their eyes.

and

Is light tint on the doors and dark on the rear and back look bad?

I want to have it tinted but be illegal as legally as possible haha.

It is possible to get an exemption for medical reasons ,but it is not going to happen if you really have nothing wrong with you. You have to jump through a lot of hoops to get that.

Leaving tint on the rear windows is illegal and the only medical exemption you can obtain from Penn Dot is for COLORLESS FILM. A medical exemption will not let you drive with tint.

Take the car back to the dealer and have them remove the tint.

I don't really think it looks good with the back darker than the front. Like I said, I would take off what you have, and go with 35% (after your police inspection).

I have 35% too and haven't had any problems with cops. Not too dark, but just dark enough.

Front side windows you are at the mercy of the cop. If he feels unsafe and can't see inside he can tell you to remove. Windosw behind the driver can be painted black as long as you have two side mirrors. Older cars only have one side mirror (my nova) so the rear window cant be obstructed. As to percentages who knows, nothing exact in laws that I know of. Cops discretion
