Scott Settlemire
Author, Camaro Subject Matter Expert

Biography: Scott Settlemire was raised in Suburban Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His Father and Uncle were Chevrolet dealers and his cousin still runs a Chevrolet Dealership. This gave Scott a very unique perspective on cars – and Chevrolet in particular - and as a result, he has an interesting understanding of Chevrolets … and Camaro in particular.

He’s been in his words "a rabid Camaro Fan since I first saw a Camaro in person on September 10, 1966."

"Being involved in the Chevrolet Camaro is more than a job to me … it has been a life-long passion."

Scott graduated from Northwood University and worked as Sales Manager for a Chevy Dealership prior to being approached by General Motors. He started his GM career in Philadelphia and held many positions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Connecticut, Suburban Boston, Metropolitan New York and, of course, Detroit.

He became Asst. Brand Manager – Camaro (and later Camaro Product Manager) on the Camaro/Corvette Performance Car Team and worked on the 4th gen F-car. His official title is "Manager – Chevrolet and Hummer Shows and Exhibits" – but he’s still working with the Camaro team and Chevrolet on the next generation Camaro.

GM Global Headquarters, Detroit, Michigan

Quote:
Oppenheiser (Chief Vehicle Engineer Camaro) is a 24-year veteran of GM engineering who had one of those luscious RS/SS '701/2 Camaros when he was still in school, drove a few Corvettes, and now has a perfectly restored black/red/white '68 Camaro SS350 convertible in his garage, along with a Harley Sportster 1200.

He has worked on Corvette and small truck programs at GM, as well as international programs with Opel, Isuzu, Daewoo, Toyota, and Suzuki.

At work, he is surrounded by 40 or so Camaro, Chevrolet, and Corvette freaks who worked on the Camaro program with him, with more like them down in Australia, where GM's rear-drive programs are headquartered.

He was also involved with two recent Bonneville Salt Flats land speed record projects at GM, the 189-mph SoCal Lakester powered by a blown Ecotec four, and a 156-mph Cobalt, also powered by an Ecotec four, that set eight records. He was in charge of all GM concept vehicle programs, including building both Camaro concepts and some special GM cars for Jay Leno. Clearly, he is a guy who gets it.
Quote:
Chevrolet's Camaro Production Manager, Cheryl Pilcher, has a long association with Camaro. She was on the team which engineered the 4th Gen. car. She worked on the C5 and C6 Corvettes before returning to her Camaro roots last Fall.

Current Position: Marketing Manager - Impala/Camaro

Education: B.A., Philosophy - Sacred Heart Seminary College, Detroit, MI

My career started in 1987 at Chevrolet Customer Assistance as a Customer Service Specialist employed by EDS. After a year of answering customers' concerns, I was moved to a speciality group called Hobby Shop. My responsibilities were to research sales questions from other specialists, such as how to order the 1LE package on 4th gen Camaro.

In 1990, I was hired by Chevrolet and assigned to the Tampa, Florida Zone Office. I worked in various positions within the Zone Office learning about various aspects of our field operations. After 2 and 1/2 years, the office was closed, and I was moved to the newly formed Northeast Region, in Foxborough, MA.

My first position in the Northeast Region was Assistant Distribution Manager, where I worked with various District Managers (including DM Scott Settlemire). Within a year I was promoted to the position of District Manager for Southern New Hampshire. Although I was only in New Hampshire for two years, I fell in love with the area and a young lady who would eventually agree to marry me, my wife Marge.

After two years in New Hampshire, I was given the challenge of improving Chevrolet's results in Rhode Island as District Managers. In two years, sales and market share increased, and I was ready for a new challenge working back in Detroit.

In 1998, I was promoted to the position of Administrative Manager in Chevrolet's Training Group. After a year in that position, and a major organizational reorganization, I found my way to our Distribution Department which paved my way back to the Northeast Region.

In January 2000, just four months after the birth of my first daughter Brigid, I was promoted to the position of Northeast Regional Distribution Manager.

I would spend the next five years in the Northeast. After my two plus years stint as Distribution Manager, I was named Assistant Regional Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Cars. In this position, I worked with various dealer groups on promotions and sales events. My second daughter, Clare, came along during this time,

After two years as the Assistant Marketing Manager, I was named Zone Manager for our Small Dealer Group. In this position, I worked with over 200 dealers and developed 12 new hire District Managers. After a year, I had the opportunity to move to Rochester, NY as Zone Manager for Pontiac-Buick-GMC in Upstate New York.

I lasted exactly one year when I was asked to move back to Detroit and work for Chevrolet Marketing. Initially, I was named Marketing Manager for HHR, but after a few short months, and the announcement of Camaro's production, I was given the dream job of launching the Camaro.
There ya Go.

Number 3 is a little more private about his association with Camaro..

Most impressive thing here is how GM has actively worked with, participated in and supported the Camaro5 community - right through the early days with spy shots - through panics about battery cables and brake weights (yes I have those collectors items now and dont really care).
I have been amazed at impressed by the genuine passion that these folks have for their jobs and how in tune they are with the market - and also how to leverage social media like this.
- These folks are Camaro Rock Stars ;-)

Looking forward to seeing Scott and the folks that made this car happen. I truly can appreciate all they have done and what bits of information they have passed along the way. It made the wait from Camaro concept car to having one in my garage much more exciting to say the least. I think we owe many drinks to Scott for putting up with our BS over the years.

Scott and Cheryl are great people. Met at Richmond Auto Show in Va and talked for 1 1/2 hours! Then came to parking garage to see our mods and signed under the hoods. Will be nice to see them again.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

I can't express my gratitude.

Having so many GM representatives at our event was an extremely gracious thing for you all to do.

The effort you guys put in to making yourselves available to not only help us handout bags and shirts, but to also be available to the members was overwhelming.

It is our sincere hope that you see, in the smiles on our faces, the gratitude we hold for you.

None of what happened this weekend would have even been a thought, had you not delivered on an absolutely wonderful car.

A very special thanks to all of you for being willing to come hang out with us.

What a great weekend.

Cheryl Pilcher spoke to my teenage daughter for 30 minutes or more, discussing the importance of physics/calculus/and women engineers. Miss Synergy SATX will be looking you up Cheryl in a few years after college. LOL
Thank you GM team!

I have not met one person from GM at the shows that are not top notch people. Even though they are so high up in the company when they come to the show they act like your every day Camaro loving people. Its great that they make themselves so personable and even though they are busy all day long doing things that need to be done they find the time to talk, discuss, and even sign things we ask for

Thanks goes out to all that made this show one of the best I have been to. Im glad I was convinced at the last moment to head down and hang out with everyone!!!

On behalf of all the Canadian Camaro gang, I would also like to thank the GM representatives that were at C5fest.
They spent a lot of time with us!
Scott presented me with the plaque and Al came over and took pictures of the gang before we left.

The Camaro5 guys did a super job putting the show together.

Memories and friendships forever!
Thank you to everyone!

Well put, guys.

I can't even begin to express my most heartfelt and sincere thanks to all of you for everything you have all done....from listening to the enthusiasts and designing/building the car, to hanging out with those same people on the back porch and just being yourselves. I know you guys love the car just as much as we do....and that makes the whole experience that much better.

You all are 100% top notch. Thanks to all of you! (and a huge thanks to Jim for the "Dale Experience!"

....now....for next year......
