I started this thread and thought I'd follow up. My wife now has about 4,000 miles on her car and she reported to me that it doesn't do it as often now. And, according to her, when it does it, it's not as "bad." I don't know what that means other than it's probably not the ABS.

Again, my camaro, with almost 5,000 miles has never done it. (Other than after I have washed the car - and it is definately rotor rust.)

mine does it now and then. First time it did it, was backing up with wheel turned to the right and I heard what sounded like the bottom of the front bumper scraped on something. I jumped out and saw nothing. It has done it maybe 4 times in 6 months, last one was this morning while backing up and wheel was straight.

My 2SS does this nearly every time I back out of teh driveway. Wheels are straight and moving slowly. As I slowly left off the brake and press it again it sounds like a bad grinding rubbing noise. It will only do it once about halfway down the hill then not again. Does not matter if the car is hot or cold.???

I've experienced this in my SS as well.
Based on the things I've heard about the Bosch ABS units in our cars, my opinion is that the ABS unit is indeed the cause of the problem.

Just experienced this today...when backing up into a parking space with the wheel turned extreme right, it sounds like something is dragging on the pavement.

Car has 2000 miles and I have yet to flush the diff fluid. Only happens at almost full lock, wheel turned to right. It was loud enough from the outside for a passerby to look my direction.

Any new insights on this?

Add another car to the list. My 1LT 6M does this same thing; today it made the deep rubbing sound 3 times. It may go away for a few days but always comes back. Only makes the sound at low speeds. Made an appointment with the dealer but since I could not reproduce the sound that day they wouldn't look at the car. Hope we can nail this sometime, it detracts from the great engineering of the car.

I have had this issue also but would describe it as a grinding sound. I am not sure what the issue is but it surely makes my heart stop everytime I hear it.

Ok, so I have experienced this a few times also...I know the good people from GM are on this site so, with all these reports when does GM admit there is a problem, what is causing this and what is the fix.

Mine does it backing out of driveway when turning.
It's not an issue with me as it does not do it all the time.

This may be a faulty strut mount with debree in it ( dirt, sand, something)

U may feel it on your brake pedal as that is what your foot is touching. It sounds exaclty like the strut mount scenario as an option.
