can anyone give me some comparisons of what they think the v8's are gonna sound like. i ordered the 2SS with the manual 6 speed so i was wondering if it is going to sound like the ls3 vette because i know they have the same motor.

Just my 2cents, fairly educated guess.
The vette most likely has more lope at idle as it has a more aggressive cam, however it is probably similar in tone.
The L99 I think will sound similar in tone yet very tame with minimal or no lope at all as the cam is less aggressive than the Camaro's LS3.

There are vids on youtube and some posts about the exhaust tuning, do a search.

I got an email on that subject from a buddy of mine at GM today....he said the LS3 sounds darn near just like the vette. I had asked him to "keep his ears open" on that subject out of curiosity a month ago, and he finally got a chance to hear one somewhere. I trust his opinion...I'm sure I will be happy with it (for awhile).
Its one of the reasons I switched to the manual trans...to avoid the AFM and less agressive cam of the automatic (and lower redline).

I forget where, but I definitely read the L99 cam will have a little less lift and duration than the LS3 and therefore run/idle smoother.

L99 will be quieter, because with AFM, they HAVE to keep it quiet, because it sounds like a V8 with 4 plug wires off when 4 cyl's are deactivated.

They also had to put the less agressive cam in it to make the AFM work properly.
Thats why the horsepower difference between the manual and auto trans cars. And something like 400-600 less of a red line.
And yes....its why I switched to the manual trans too.

The Silver SS exhaust sounds on the net are from Indy. They are from L99 car. The car had auto.

I had a bad dream about this the other night. I'm getting the L99, and I'm at the dealership with my entire family, baloons are floating, music is playing and everyone is there to celebrate me finally getting my Camaro. FBodyFather was there to hand me the keys and I got into it, started it up and...

NOTHING. No roar, no rumble, nothing, nada... zilch.

I looked at Scott with bewildered expression seasoned with dismay and he responded to my gaze with "Well, you wanted the auto, there you go". Then some guy pulled past me pointing and laughing in a silver 2SS LS3 that sounded like it never heard of mufflers or cats.

I woke up very sad, and very worried; contemplating going against my golden rule of never owing a stick as long as I live in L.A.

I am a man torn.

That has literally no sound at all at idle..
