2013 Auto Dim Sideview Mirror / Defroster Questions - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

Hey Everyone -

Late last year I traded in my 2011 2LT/RS for a 2013 SS/RS. A few things are different and I don't know if they are broken or if the 2013 just works differently. I figured you all could help

1) The auto dim rearview mirror works fine, but the driver side mirror hardly ever dims (usually only when I'm in the garage. Even when the rear view is full dim, the side view is normal. My old Camaro used to work pretty well with that.

2) My old car, when I'd turn it on under a certain temp, would automatically turn on the rear defroster. Doesn't seem to happen in the 2013. Should it?

3) The HUD sometimes shows audio info, sometimes it doesn't. When it does show audio, it will sometimes show only the station (usually XM) and sometimes show the song title, regardless of whats on the MyLink display. Is this just MyLink bugginess?

Thoughts?

My defrost comes on when real cold, and turns the mirror defrost on automatically too. I don't think my mirror dims at all. I keep reaching to flip it to dim but there is no manual switch. I hate it.

As far as the Mylink Nav goes... It sucks so I pulled it. Thumb drive grief was the tipping point.

Must be a 2SS thing. My 1SS doesn't have any of those features. Hence, no problems.

I think that the HUD situation is normal. It depends on how you have the HUD set up. As per page 5-28 and 5-29 in your manual.

Thanks for the feedback. Seems like the side view dimming should work, so I may check with my dealer. Person behind me last night was driving with high beams on and nothing on that side mirror.

Do you have rear window tint? It has a huge effect on how dim it'll make the driver side window. If you have 5% in the rear and 20% or more in the front windows then it isn't going to dim much because less light is traveling to the sensor in the rear view mirror.

Nope, no tints on mine.

mine works fine, never bothered to notice the rear defroster with the temp up I turn the defroster on manually and it does both the back and the mirrors. The side mirror not dimming must be due to too much light outside the car, the sensor for the dimming is on the rear view mirror I believe. And not all stations on the radio send out a signal with the name of the song or the station to go to the hud when changing radio stations or even onto the mylink so I would not worry about it.

Quick update on the side view mirror. Turns out the wiring was bad. Dealer took the door off to figure it out. They fixed it and now it dims like it should.

Are both side mirrors supposed to dim? Im pretty sure that only one of my side mirrors dim...is it supposed to be like that?
