Thoughts on Relative Pricing of the RS Package

Been thinking about this one and wanted to get other's opinion/ideas on this.

Here is what Cheryl Pilcher said in the Autoweek article. Keeping in mind that these are the people that misquoted here about the Z28 by conveniently lea ving a couple of words off the end of a sentence, here is the source of my question here:

CP: "The RS package is available on all models except the LS. Like I said, it has HID lighting, a darker tailamp treatment, and on a V-6 RS you get the spoiler found on the SS. The wheels are expected to have a unique paint treatment - not black, but not a typical bright silver finish. And then the V-6 RS option also includes 20-inch wheels."

Based on this small piece of info, it sounds like what you get with the RS on the SS is a different colored SS badge (red), painted wheels, the darker tailamps (the justifiably famous afterburners) and the halos.

On the LT package with the V6, in addition you get the spoiler, and the 20s.

Guesses on what the price difference would be? I am thinking the RS will cost less on an SS since it INCLUDES some of the elements of the RS package, but by no means all of them.

Thoughts?????

It was said earlier that the RS/SS would have its own spoiler.

Do you know where? I didn't see that, everything I have read so far says the spoiler with the RS package is the one on the SS. Not doubting you, just trying to learn as much as I can.

I think there will be GMPP modifications available including a small rear wing, but I haven't read anything about a specific spoiler for the RS/SS. Maybe Fbodfather can enlighten us on this one.

I cant imagine the RS package being more than $3,000. Not sure if im going to pay that, all i want is the Halo's and the tail lights and both of those can be easily switched out. As far as the wheels go im looking at aftermarket deep dish 22"s out back 20"s up front.

On the RS package, you are mainly paying for HID headlamps and the LED halos. Both of which are not cheap components to engineer and install, even in 2008 (or 2010) - the factory ballasts for the HIDs are pricey in and of themselves.

I do not foresee a huge price discrepency between the LT RS package and the SS RS package.

Sounds like you have some insight on this one. What do you think it would take for the headlights? In one of the chats on Tuesday they said the recreated the afterburners with a coating on the plastic, so I can't believe that would be a big ticket item:

gss9909: do the tail lights achieve the same "after burner effect as thw concept?

MikeAndJeff: (the afterburners effects we're talking about on the concept car). The LED detail on the concept car which we reproduced on the lens material on the production vehicle. They sparkle in the same way.

Appreciate any insight you might have into the cost of the halos....Thanks!

judgeing by other packages that have been offered....

id place the V6 RS package in between $899-1900

The SS RS package will probaly be a bit more... say $1100-2100

anything over that, and it would be cheaper to accomplish the same feat with aftermarket products

Why do you think more for the SS, the RS gets the spoiler and the 20s from the SS and adds the headlights, the different tailights, and just has to paint the wheels the RS color, they are already 20s.....

The RS better cost less on the SS model since it includes some features that are already standard. I'd imagine 2K-3K is a good ballpark number. That's what most appearance packages seem to run these days.

you know I think the RS package on the LT will be more expensive just bcause of the added features while the SS has some RS options standard.(I don't know maybe I'm wrong) don't worry we'll know soon enough.

I'm going to go ahead and start the "I think they'll be the same" club.
It's very common for auto manufacturers to offer upgrade / sport packages on higher end models for even more money they you would pay for the same parts on a lower end vehicle..

I personally think it'll be about 2-3k for the package, and will cost exactly the same on the SS as the LT.

This simply would be a robbery of the cost of those items on the V8 SS that comes standard effectively charging double for the same extras...
