Have built countless cam cars over the 16 years. We have always used mobile 1 0w-40 for the higher zinc. None of them have had failures. So, I still point at the oil. I know lots of people run the 5-30 with no issues, that's just what I've narrowed it down to.
My failure occurred with 5 - W30 Amsoil.

Which AMoils? Signature series and OE oils series do not have the extra zinc. Id like to know since I rarely hear failures with AMoils. Even when running the perfect oil, it doesnt void all risk..

Would this be considered "over camming ", if so, why?

Sure, great oil for any daily driver, but for a performance car with a cam, running at least 50wheel over stock and track driven.....hmmmmm, you have much stouter choices out there, even from Amsoil themselves.

No, it's more like try reading this forum from the beginning like I have, it's a hoot!

Thought I'd come and take a break in here. Reading 3 days worth of Podesta emails, and some other Wikileaks related material is quite , this place is refreshing .

You need to specify the rest of the supporting mods for a proper assessment. Application of use, for the end user as well.

Probably half the people here have sold there Camaro SS, but for the die hards. This what I know about cam failures.

8620 is the ideal core to get a grind on.

Lifters play a big role in how long a cam lasts.

More important than that IS NEW LIFTER trays!!!! If your camming a 50000mile LS3 and your not changing lifter trays or lifters your screwed. Lifter trays wear out, allowing the lifter to rotate, causing premature wear on the cam. So change them. There only good for max 70 000miles.

I put new heads on and went to Johnson Lifters with new GM trays. Cam looked good, nothing crazy, but I know I have to change everything come 20000km on cam and lifters. Just the price to pay to keep things safe. Cam has 15000km and is going strong.

Oh and change your oil, max oil interval for my Camaro SS heads cam is max 3000KM, I'm not kidding!!! Good oil is cheap. Black oil will wear your engine out.
