L99 to LS3 conversion

I keep seeing references to the "L99 to LS3 conversion". Can someone tell me exactly what this is and what I expect as far as gains from it.

Some minor changes in the heads and combustion, as I understand it. (Don't quote me on that)
The gains will hardly be worth the money it will take, much less the work.

I think it's mostly the cam.

That being said, it's pointless. An L99 _IS_ an LS3, just slightly tweaked (and it has VVT. Vtec, yo). If you want to make up the 26 hp and get rid of AFM, an ECU tune will pretty much do that.

Getting rid of the AFM, what changes other than power would that have on the car?

If you want to wake a L99 up do the following. Get a cold air intake, get a ECM tune, get a tranny tune. And if you really want it to move when punching it get a stall convertor. I would not go inside the engine unless you have lots of money to fix things if they break.

After that still want more get a Maggie SuperCharger.

Buy like 5,000 fireworks, strap them to the back of your car and set em off. The boost will make you fast.

AFM 'tune out' alone wont increase your power. It probably would make no change at all except worse gas mileage. The AFM does not kick in when you are pushing hard on the gas.

The conversion is mainly for Cam changes.....

I did a Cam with a L99 TO LS3 Conversion and made 58 rwhp

My boost on my TVS-2300 went from 8.5lbs to 5.5lbs with cam install.....

My car has had the following deleted AFM,VVT,and DOD.....

For the record, I haven't done a tune. But the OP was asking about how to convert from 'L99' to 'LS3'. Some people don't like AFM for the sound (it doesn't bother me).

Honestly? L99s don't really have any trouble keeping up with LS3s. Both engines have run 12s. The L99 has low hanging fruit in the form of a tune, if you really want to increase your RWHP a bit (watch the warranty).

'Conversion' is really kind of specious. What's the point? The L99 IS an LS3, with some tweaks to support AFM and VVT. You want to make more power, say it that way.

L99 to LS3 Conversion

From what I've read about the two cars.

Basically a cam, 8 lifters, and the compression is slightly different either from the heads or the pistons. I'd say the pistons, but it's not enought to really change anything. Then there is the variable valve timing & the computer reprogram.

Your gains would be 26HP. It's not worth the effort. You could buy a cold air intake and some headers to to the same.

I don't know about you folks, but I've gotten used to the AFM.

Variable valve timing and the DOD is another term for your active fuel management.
