What to expect at 200,000 miles.

Okay guys, here is my first post. I have not posted because I have had very few issues in 8 years and 211,150 miles.

Basic background is that I bought my 2SS/RS new August 9, 2009. I do regular maintenance with full synthetic Mobil One only and got 55,000 miles on the first two sets of Perelli's.

The second two sets I got 23,000 miles on Perelli's (same OEM model???)

Changed to Continentals and am at over 50,000 on this set with good tread for probably 10,000 more miles.

As to issues: the first issue was rear axle seals at 100,000 miles. They were replaced again at 200,000 miles due to leaking.

I also had to replace the right front wheel bearing at 160,000.

Finally, last week my car inexplicably started misfiring driving 35mph. It was quickly diagnosed as a broken exhaust valve spring. I had all springs (exhaust and intake) replaced at the same time at 211,150 miles.

This is a great car, but I am comparing to my 1994 Wrangler that currently has 352,350 miles. To be fair, I put a crate motor in the Jeep at 300,000, but I expect my Camaro to do every bit as good as my 4cylinder 5speed Jeep

Hope this helps you guys that are getting up there in miles.

Drive Safely.

The only thing I have had to replace so far is tires, just replaced my 6th set of rears, and oil. Just over 10,000 miles on a 2013.

Thanks for posting up your experience and welcome. I didn't see it posted but guessing this is an auto as well? Have you kept it completely stock?

I'm about to hit 40k on my 2011 and have started driving it many more miles which will continue for the foreseeable future. I hope I can have the same experience as you did.

Wow great for post OP. The SS models are notorious for being low mileage garage queens. my 2013 has a bout 30,000 miles and there are some 2010's on here with only around 8000...

Is you car an auto or manual? If auto that would be great news for the trans too...

Just curious what fluid was used? If it was the diff fluid with the Limited Slip Additive already in the bottle it isn't compatible with the cars original axle seals? If it was the fluid where the additive is added separately it would be okay.

I was just curious as I just went through the diff fluid issue on mine and a TSB required new seals be installed with it which was covered by GM under the PT warranty.

I was waiting for the dealer to call me and say my warranty was void due to my tune but they didn't notice it when doing the figure 8 loops to distribute the rear axle fluid outwards I guess.......... I didn't try to hide the tune nor did I point it out either. I just told them not to touch a single other thing on the car without calling me first LOL.

Great news, thanks.

Before I retired, I was typically getting 200,000 miles or more before junking a car, usually because of rust or annoying minor problems like HVAC.

Modern drivetrains are amazingly durable if not abused.

Now that I don't commute, the miles are coming more slowly. My 2010 2SS has only 60,000 miles, so it's going to be around a long time yet.

good to know.20,000 miles on my 2015 so far,but i expect it to be a long term car with many miles in the future.im guessing the dreaded heater core leaks, etc. are not as common as one would be led to believe.

Interesting that at over 200,000, you haven't had to do chassis work. All of mine that reached that number of miles needed ball joints, tie rods, u-joints, bushings, shocks, etc..

I'm at 62k. 2nd motor due to a failed oil pump. Nothing else yet.

Every individual vehicle is different... I've got a Silverado with 260,000 miles, a Suburban with 210,000, a Blazer with 201,000, and my Camaro with almost 160,000. Each has had various repairs needed over the years, some big, some small, and my experiences seem to be vastly different than those of other owners of similar vehicles.

Regarding my Camaro, I've had maintenance items (tires, filters, oil, fluids, battery, brake pads, etc.), a number of lug studs have broken (probably the result of one event regarding a way- overtorqued air wrench at a shop), an alternator, and the most expensive, the Passenger Presence Sensor ($1100... dealer only). I'm pretty happy with that fairly small list, especially given that I work the thing pretty hard: Lots of SoCal traffic, 30 miles of hard mountain driving on every day's commute, and a lead foot. I'm not gentle... but I do my maintenance, so the car just keeps going... and going... and going... and going...

The suspension is still tight, the AC is cold, and I still get random compliments from strangers (well, the CAR gets the compliments... me, not so much!).
