Winter tires and rims, size and brand recommendation?

Hey, I am looking for some winter boots for a gen 6 camaro ss. I cannot find tire sizes that would match the back end.

Can someone recommend size and brand. I was originally looking at blizzaks but they don't make them in 275. I am new with cars in general forgive my ignorance.

I would also like to stick to 20in tires.

I am on Vancouver Island, winters are avg 0c + or - 5-8c

Thanks.

I found that you can get 19x8.5" wheels with 245/45 winter tires for $200 more than a set of just tires in stock SS sizes... considering you'll have to shell out the $1500 for stock sizes every time you need new tires and half of that for the smaller ones, it just doesn't make sense. But I think Pirelli make a set, check tire rack.

+1 on the 19x8.5 wheels with 245/45/19 snow tires.
FWIW I am running Pirelli Sottozero 3 for snow driving.
A separate set of wheels and tires makes the change over simple in the garage or driveway.

I also recommend buying a second set of wheels/tires... way cheaper in the long run.

Get a square setup so you can rotate.

I have a 1SS with the regular 4 piston Brembos and 18" wheels fit great.

Set of 4:
Wheels: 18 x 8 with 35 offset
Tires: 245 / 50 R18 Blizzak WS80s

Pictures of the setup I went with here:

I've read a bit into the data from TireRack and it seems to me that the Pirelli Sottozero 3 tire is the best price/performance winter tire available. I intend to get that and a dedicated (cheap) winter wheel. Before I commit to this I will check into Costco for their price on Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4. I was able to get a good price on PS4S in stock size from Costco, so I am hoping they can do something for me here as well.

Wider tires are NOT better for snow, so sticking to the stock SS size tires should be avoided if possible.

*EDIT* Costco did not do me any favors on the Michelin Alpin PA4. Their price was around $270 per tire, and TireRack has them at $236.

*EDIT2* I ordered a set of 18" Sport Edition P5 Wheels, Camaro RS TPMS (Half the cost, but lower speed rating), and 245/50R18 Pirelli Sottozero Series 3 Run-On-Flat tires from Tirerack.

*EDIT3* I have had the Pirelli Sottozero 3 installed for a few weeks now and they are fantastic! They are much quieter than I expected. Noise is not at all an issue with these tires. So far I have not encountered any snow. I do not look forward to when the snow comes, but I am hopeful these tires will do well. The worst weather I have seen with them so far has been cold heavy rain and the performance from the tires was exceptional.

That's exactly what my winter setup is. Works great.

It should be 245/50 for 18" wheels, otherwise the wheel diameter will be noticeably smaller.

Go 20". The car looks much better. You guys actually got snow last year near van city hey? Given your mild winters...if you have the coin. Get Pirelli sottozeros. They're suitable for mild winters and retain a lot of performance.

I have to deal with -30°c and lots of snow so I'm running Hakkapeliitta 8's studded on my oem rims (245/40/20).

245/50-18 all around with Michelin Ice x3.
We drove in the Alberta winter land on these, felt safe and secure.
Recommend.

@Tankman - Did you drive your Camaro last winter? I live in Calgary and before I spend thousands of dollars on tires and rims I want to make sure the car is drive-able in the winter. I have an SUV for really snowy days, but that one needs new winter tires too....

We drove according to conditions so we obviously would slow down or avoid any terrible winter conditions or areas.
Generally speaking it didn’t stop us, slush: we probably approached it a little faster to force through it.
Hope this helps?
