Parked for winter (soon)
Hello all, I will be storing my baby for winter soon. I had a bad summer spent a lot of time in the hospital only put around 1200 miles on the car . My question is I changed oil in the spring (pennzoil ultra platinum). Do you guys think I need to change the oil before I store the car, or can I go another summer as is????

It's fine for winter.
I change mine in the spring whether or not I have the miles on. |

I am doing the same thing and only have 1100 miles on the car. What else should I do to car before I put it away? Should I start it every now and again during the winter, what's the best stuff to put in the gas? Thanks

Clean it thoroughly inside and out. Install a battery tender and cover it.

Thanks, that's what I planned but wasn't sure if there was anything better that I hadn't heard of.

Some members on this forum will tell you to change the oil every time you look at the car.
Notice I didn't say drive. |

battery tender, fuel stabilizer, clean inside and out and maybe start it up every few weeks, make sure you let it come up to temperature

Lots of posts and opinions here on storage. People who know will
put Stabilizer in the tank and let it sit. Starting it up once in a while helps nothing. Change the oil in the Spring and you will be good to go.

Its your car treat it how you want and you can do as you please. I myself change my oil before I store it. Used oil gets acidic properties to it from oxidation and those acids will attack bearing surfaces. Its just my personal preference and piece of mind knowing I got clean oil on all the surfaces that contact bearings.

This. Change the oil BEFORE you store it. You don't want that used oil sitting in there over the winter. Also, if you're not going to drive it, don't start it any. That will just create moisture that won't fully burn off. You know what that does. Keep the battery on a tender and you'll be ready to go in spring.

I can top that...
Same situation but I only put 100 miles on mine before breaking four bones that rendered me unable to drive it. I feel for you, OP. I had Mobil 1 in the engine.
For those of you in the "change it before winter", where would you draw the line? For the record, I've ALWAYS been in that camp. Struggling with dropping 100-mile synthetic. |

I park my car for most of the winter but try to get it out on nice dry days every couple of weeks and drive it for an hour or so to keep everything moving etc. Do I need to remove the battery to put a battery tender on it or can it be used while still connected to the car?
Thx, Cam |
