Ran out of gas!

My son ran his 2010 RS out of fuel yesterday. After talking to him about the reasons you don't want to do that I jumped into getting it started. I figured this would be relatively easy. It has not been.
Battery seems to crank slowly even after a full charge. I am going to check all the secondary connections up to the front but it was fine before he ran it out of fuel? I pulled the fuel line off and I get fuel pumping when I turn the key to on so the fuel pump is good. Am I missing something? Trying to figure this out.
Thanks

these cars are very fussy and all kinds of weird things happen when the battery is done. Been there done that. Windows don't close right, dash light, starting issues. My advice: Get the battery tested

I mean, if you're on the original battery, change it.

The battery is 16 months old. I pulled it out and ran it to a place to have it tested just in case. It tested fine. Rated at 800CCA and it was at 780CCA. Next I guess check connections?

Im not exactly familiar with a DI engine, but if its anything like an SFI system like a typical L99 or LS3, fuel coming out on top at the rails does not necessarily mean the pump is good all the time.

With that said, a no fuel or low fuel pressure will not cause a slow cranking issue. The motor will spin and spin (crank and crank) and struggle to fire up and may idle/miss if the pump is failing/failed but it will not struggle to turn/crank/spin

is there any possibility that maybe your son forgot to mention another symptom that the car may have been experiencing prior to running out of gas?

He said it gas was low and the light was on but he didn't think it had been on long enough to run out. That said, he also said he didn't know what running out of gas felt like because he never has. Oh to be that young!
He said he lost a lot of power and went in to limp mode and it had the StabiliTrak light on when I showed up but I figured that was from it running out of gas?
What is the best way to check the starter? It has 90,000miles on it and the timing chain replacement has been performed.
Thanks

starter needs to come off unless you take it in for a full charging/starting diagnosis but you can just table that for now

the car will not go into limp mode if it runs out of gas and thats your starting point

the car may have another problem and your son may have coincidentally ran out of gas

most importantly, it went into limp mode. So time to pull the codes. the car will tell you whats wrong with it. it can be a minor thing. pull the codes

He ran the code reader before I got there.
History of that read shows:
P0300 Random Misfire
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire
P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire
P0306 Cylinder 6 Misfire
P0348 Cam Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Bank 2

Charged battery again last night.

How are the connections to the Batt.?? are they clean or oxidized?? Have you tried Jump starting it?? If you tried Jump starting and it still turns over slowly, I would think it's the starter

I have tried jumping it and it does still crank slow but it is surprising to me that it doesn't fire.
On the timing chain, that was my initial fear as well but the Cloyes Timing Chain Kit was put in about 5000 miles ago and that seemed rock solid??

The battery is fully charged and no cranking. Clicking from the front end of the car.
Check engine light is flashing.
Battery connections are very clean.
I'm kind of at a loss of what to do know. I guess I could pull the driver's side valve cover and try to get it to crank and see if the chain is moving?
I can't imagine that is it with a few months on the Cloyes kit.
