ATI balancer/pulley install DYI
Has anyone out there done the crank pulley swap and the balancer swap with the ATI balancer? And if so (and I am sure there are tons of you) has anyone actually documented the steps (with visuals) from beginning to end?
I have searched all of the threads on the 75RWHP package from Ted and found nothing that would show me how to actually put together the pulleys and the balancer itself. It seems simple enough, I just don't want to screw anything up and was looking for that C5 moral support that has always helped me through doing mods myself! Thanks guys/gals!! |

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you! But there is still a question of how the assembly of the actual pulley and the balancer and the hub all go together. They came from ATI all seperatly. I am used to them being assembled. Do you have any further info on this specific thing?? thanks again! |

the pulley is held to the balancer by three ARP bolts. That part is extremely easy. Make sure to use blue loctite on the bolts and line up the "offset" line on the pulley and balancer. That line is clearly marked on both.

also there is a special wedge tool that makes it easy to remove and install the ac belt. It is not a expensive tool. Also there is a install only tool for about $9.

The tool was more of a hassle than help in my opinion. For just the A/C compressor only the placement of this tool was next to impossible. If the A/C belt was closest to the outer portion of the hub it may have helped. You can do this belt install with your fingers by pressing hard as you rotate the crank pulley clockwise and keep pressure on the belt until it pops onto the pulley. It is like a "bike chain" effect...roll it into the groove and it is not that hard.

What are the typical gains from balancer/ underdrive pulley? Are they expensive?

a 5% overdrive pulley will give you roughly 40-50 rwhp and similar torque. Larger pulleys will obviously produce more gain. Parts will probably run you between $600 and $700 for a 5% or 10% kit. Kits larger than 10% will require an idler relocation bracket and other supporting mods such as injectors, adding to the cost. You'll need to factor in labor if you don't do the install yourself. Expect to be billed 2.5-3 hrs worth for a 5 or 10% kit. Depending on your tune situation, you may have to figure that cost in as well. Your best bet is to contact one of the vendors selling crank pulley overdrive kits for more information.

FYI, you DON'T have to unhook the top radiator hose and break the cooling system to get the fans out. Once you get the airbox/CAI out and the fans unbolted and unplugged you can lift the fans from the passenger side first and they'll come out at an angle, under the radiator hose. Saves a little time, and you don't have to hassle with the new style GM hose clamps.

thank you all for the help! I have installed the JRE 75RWHP kit and had not issues what so ever. It was simple and the results are incredible. It is currently too damn cold to test it out to full capacity, but I can tell the increase in power is significant. Thanks again to TED JANNETTY and JRE for doing such incredible work and having such great service.
