GM first quarter sales report, including Camaro mention

Chevrolet sales in North America were down 28 percent for the quarter, due in part to planned pickup truck production cuts to reduce inventory levels. However, GM has seen very strong demand for the new Camaro which had nearly 10,000 orders on hand to be filled at the end of the quarter. Overall GM sales in the U.S. enabled it to slightly improve market share in the quarter compared with a year ago. In addition, sales in the U.S. were up 31 percent when compared with the first quarter of the year, boosting GM's market share from 18.4 percent in first quarter to 20.5 percent in the second quarter. Additionally, GM share in North America increased nearly two percentage points, to 19.9 percent, when comparing Q1 with Q2, 2009.

The whole key here is market-share. Everything else will take care of itself as long as everything GM does is to gain market share.

As long as there is no more bailouts it's good news. But not a dime more past the Chapter 11 agreements. Time to sink or swim. Not trying to be negative but it's time for things that don't sell or bad ideas to die and good ideas like Camaro to lead the way.

Hopefully this will only increase, as more people see Camaros on the streets and are blown away Even if they don't get a Camaro, a nice halo effect would help GM sell some vehicles

- Every car has to be a hit and every car has to be profitable on its own.

Agreed, we did our part at Camaro5, now need to spread the word to the people to buy GMs newer and good line of vehicles.

Absolutely, its time for GM to stand on its own 2 legs. GM is now relieved of much of its debt so it isn't going to be rampantly burning through cash anymore. I believe the leaner GM will survive.

Absolutely, once GM finishes taking its first baby steps, hopefully people who were hesitant to buy GM will now see its as a leaner, stronger more customer based car company. GM needs to make sure that their customer service is performing at a higher standard then when they entered bankruptcy (all indications I've seen are positive so far).

Just my 2 cents.

Lets hope that this is the beginning of many good things to come for GM.

As they increase their success, it's good for everyone.

But what happens when you have cars like the Malibu that are great by all accounts, and is superior in many ways to the Accord and Camry but nobody bothers to consider a Chevy. There have been the automotive equivalent to blind taste tests where the debadge the cars and ask people who they think makes the car, and how the rate its quality. The new malibu consistantly ranked at the top, but was often mistaken for a Toyota because of the brands percieved quality. Stuff like takes years to fix, and simply offering great products is not enough.
