Camaro Performance Guesses
There has been lots of speculation on trim levels and engines, but we have only had a sprinkling of guesses on hard performance numbers. Often it gets brought up as an aside. There isn't really a thread to bring all the stuff together. So, what sort of numbers do you think we will see with the Camaro? base V8, top dog, V6? 0-60, 1/4 mile, skidpad, slalom, 60-0, nurburgring time, and any others that you can think of. Some of these are going to be approximate at best. But I think we know enough to get a reasonable range.

I think the 'base' V8 will have:
4.7 0-60 or less. mid-to-high 12 1/4 mile. And a low.9 G's. |

I'm in the same boat as Dragon' on the "base" V8. I think the mainstream rags' will get bottom-13s to high-12s in the 1320'. I know GMHTP, Chevy High Performance, and Super Chevy (I think) were all able to scratch a 12.9, bone stock with six-speed 4th. Gens. It seems this car will likely have another, at least, 50 horse (because all 4th. Gens. should've been rated closer to 350 horsepower) and weight a couple hundred pounds more, so I'm thinking it should still be a few ticks faster than the 4th. Gen.
I think the "top dog" could be in the mid-to-low 12s, with the better magazines (GMHTP, Chevy High Performance, Super CHevy) running close to the 11s, bone stock. This is assuming the car gets close to 550 horse There's no question in my mind that it'll run easy 11s, with small mods', if if ends up getting a supercharged 6.2L, but I was thinking last night, and contemplating another senario: because Father has already said to forget what we know, what if there is not going to be an actual camshaft in the engine?... What I mean is, what if they implement electric actuators, the valves sit in, that open and close them by command from the ECM. I have an article on one of my GMHTPs that showed some of that kind of technology and it occured to me maybe Father was perhaps alluding to technology like that. I'll try to find that issue, scan it, and post it, maybe in a new thread so I am not

I agree with Dragoneye. I like the 4.7 number.

I'm thinking that we might see a 5.0 for the 0-60 on the base. Top dog will be in the low 4's. Skidpad? 9.0 for V6, 9.2 for Z28 (and higher, if applicable). Maybe 67 mph in the slalom
'ring time I would imagine that it could run about an 8:05

Well, the Pontiac G8 GXP Zeta platform( 3995 lbs.) and 6 speed Tremec goes 0-60mph in 4.7 according to GM. G8 GT L76 auto does it in 5.3.
If the Camaro comes in 3600-3800 lbs., it should do 0-60mph in around 4.5 seconds or lower. No idea on the supercharged monster coming later.?. |

^^^most sense yet. let's not forget the good ol' goat, which is my love affair aside from the camaro[shhh]. u got 2 admit that gm did some amazing crap gettn' that aussie goat to haul butt at 4.6 seconds on the 0-60! that things an absolute brick! so i think if gm just goes a little further w/ the tuning and weight reduction and such, the 'maro (400+ v8, whatever slot u want to put that in) ought to do 4.4-5 i think. which remember, that would be gt500 range for a much cheaper car with 100 less ponies! that's why i've decided i could might settle for something less than 500hp. as for the 1/4, i would say 12.4, being kinda optimistic. my $.02

For the high perf model with a sport suspension and a manual trans
I'd like to see low 4s in 0-60 sub 10 in 0-60-0 .95 on the skid pad 1/4 in the low 12s |

what you'd like to see and what happens are 2 diffferent things... if i had my choice i'd say a 1.02-3G but we can't have everything can we? what we need to be thinking about is what to expect i doubt we'll see a .95g version out of the stable, but maybe... depends on the tires and suspension Chevy decides to give the car. I hope that they make the handling as close to the .99G the vette pulls, but i don't think that will happen with this chassis...

in the MT review of the 08 Vette it hit .97 on the skid pad, they stated that with better tires it could have probably hit 1.00
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...onclusion.html In the handling department, we managed to circulate the Black Lake's 216-foot-diameter circle at about 40 mph with no drama or stability-control intervention, generating a respectable average of 0.97 g. Swapping to a non-run-flat tire with a bit more sidewall compliance and more aggressive tread compound would likely drive that number up above the magic 1.00 g. All of us are guessing at this point anyway, but .95 isn't impossible |
