So....about using a catch can.....
Changed the oil this weekend at under 11k (bought the car with 5400 on it).
Didn’t see the catch can until today (for some reason) This is what it looked like (when I got it loose). Yikes was the word I used.

I've had one on my car for nearly a year. Not a drop in it yet.

I would say the same for the guy without a drop , must not drive it or its not installed correctly, for the LS driver your should check your can more often as the v-6 is noted for more blow by and yup that would be in your intake tract if you did not have it.......For a v-8 my normal amount is about a ounce every couple thousand miles running correct 5w30.

Found this in a post in the engine section dealing with the v-6 and its catch can results from Elite Engineering, I use them....
A good catchcan will trap far more than just oil, infact our E2 and E2-X will trap nearly all compounds that are part of the crankcase vapors, and here is an example of what a sample drain consists of: 70% is acidic water (the sulfuric acid and other acids formed mix with the water and don;t separate once mixed). 23% is raw fuel and other volatile chemicals. 7% is oil, and dirty oil saturated with abrasive particulate matter such as carbon, soot, and ash. This is a GDI engine drain. A LS port injected will not have as much fuel as GDI engines have many times the raw fuel pushed past the rings.

I empty mine at every oil change, usually about half full. I put a RX on at my first oil change, it didn’t catch much, switched to an Elite after a year and it catches twice as much and is eaiser to empty.

jrhagen, there is no way if the can is installed correctly that you would not have any oil in it, impossible. If you have no oil in it the installation or parts are incorrect. What can do you have and do you have a picture of the install ?

Thanks. I’m thinking the car sat for a while before it was sold last year. First time I noticed it when I changed the oil (it was staring me in the face when I tried to move the cover to get at the filter cover batter).
It was fairly viscous (like oil), but it may never have been opened since the install (it was on super tight) Now I’ll check it more.
