Headers

Hey Camaro5! Phastek here.
We wanted to get feedback on Long Tube Header for SS Camaros.
And make recommendations on our experience.
Always the big question, 1 7/8" or 2"
1 7/8" is recommended for mild to medium modifications with stock cubic inch engines.
2" is recommended for big HP. Lots of Boost or Big cubic inch.
Please share your experiences regarding header sizes and combinations, as well as any notable HP numbers.

Well I went with the Stainless Power LT's. 1 7/8th for me. Got a good price for the headers and install with an off road mids, no cats at my tune shop. Camaro is an L99, and with the CAI I had and the LT's we went from 330 rwhp to 365 rwhp. And the sound with my axle back exhaust almost doubled!! Very happy. They have been on for 11 years and still look great!!

I have Texas speed 1 7/8 on mine. No cats. ZERO complaints. Fit was perfect, didn't have to dimple or notch anything. Install was 2 hours including a beer run. I put my headers on in December of 2015 and they still look great, never had a leak, and still put a smile on my face when I press the fun pedal. For the price and quality, I am thoroughly satisfied.

Speed engineering FTW! Got them for 100$ back in 2015. No issues.

I thought we saw some dyno testing that showed HP improvements with 2" primaries even on mild builds? I'll see if I can dig something up, maybe Rich H has a YouTube vid.

For me personally, I have a set of coated 1 7/8 JBA longtubes with cats. I really like the "titanium" coating (really just a nice grey), and I really appreciate the v-band clamp on the collector to cat connection. However, the fitment has been an issue. First set were wat too tight under the car and made contact with the passenger floor board. Second set fit, but with very minimal clearance and I was out shipping costs....Now that I have installed a revshift trans mount insert, the passenger side cat is making contact with the floorpan again.

All that said, I think several vendors are missing an opportunity by not having coated headers in stock and ready to ship. Pair that with something better than a slip fit connection on the collector and you might have something.

From JRE in 2010 but everywhere else seems to have the same consensus. Very minor gains going from 1 7/8" to 2", likely not worth the extra expense, weight and tighter installation clearance on a mild/street car.

I've been running 1 7/8" Kooks for years. I'm cammed now and they are still awesome. I added some Noweeds diverters to finish off the obnoxiously loud when I want it effect and Solo Mach XL catback for when I want to be legal AND have a nice classic muscle car sound.

FYI, Detroit Speed has adjustable engine mounts that will lower the engine up to a half inch if you don't mind some extra NVH.

Thanks! I am running the BMR mounts that dropped down a 1/4, but I still have a little bit of rubbing.
