What do you look at first when shopping for brake pads??

What do you look at first when shopping for brake pads??

Price, material, Performance etc..

Do Ceramic options really have lower noise and lower dust??
How do you feel about your brake pads and do you feel they hold up to their advertised features??

See types of Brake Pads below with their characteristics.

Performance Ceramic:
  • Increased Stopping Power
  • Extended Rotor and Pad Life
  • Ultra-Low Dust
  • Extremely Quiet

Carbon Ceramic:
  • A Low-Dust Ceramic Formula That Is Reinforced With Carbon Fibers To Strengthen The Compound And Provide Severe-Duty Stopping Power Without Sacrificing Every-Day Drivability.
  • Dust-Free: Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads Feature A Dust-Free Friction Formula
  • Noise-Free: No More Embarrassing, Noisy Brakes, All Brake Pads Are Tested To Ensure Noise-Free Braking

Performance Organic:
  • Good Static and Dynamic Coefficient
  • Intermediate to High Torque
  • Designed for High Deceleration Rates
  • Excellent Modulation Characteristics

On our shop 5th Gen SS we are running Hawk HPS pads paired with BAER EradiSpeed+ rotors and feel these two make a great pair for daily driving!

What are your favorite pad (or brake setup) to go with an why? OEM, or Aftermarket? Let us know your thoughts!

I've always used the EBC stuff. I've used the solid rotors and red stuff pads that were good for daily driving very little brake dust but sucked when it came time to stop from a 100 mph, they faded really quick. I know have the dimpled and slotted rotors and NDX blue stuff full race pads that stop great compared to others that I've tried in the past including to factory pads. However, I wish I could get the performance out of the NDX pads without all the brake dust. So, I will be looking to change them out pretty soon and will be looking for a pad that won't fade from a high-speed stop and minimal brake dust. And always the price is always a concern.

I check to see if the box says "Akebono" on it. I've NEVER received a bad product from them, across many different platforms.

I can say I am having slight issues with Powerstop pads. It -might- be self inflicted.

Do you recommend ceramic pads with slotted and drilled rotors?

I've been running Hawk ceramic (yellow) pads and DBA slotted rotors for years and have loved them. They stop great, dust minimal, and the rotors look great too. Not a ton of people with DBA that I've noticed, but they're a great rotor and their look that helps improve stopping power is quite unique.
