OT-Funny cars, 8000 HP?

Left the TV on after the NASCAR race at Nashville, and the announcer then says we're going to some Drag Strip with 8000 HP funny cars. Is that for real? My God if it is.

Yup! There 8000hp cars. I believe the motors run around 120K a piece but don't quote me on that

Yes, 8000 hp EACH. When they run at Z Max drag strip in NC, they are 4 wide and it is 32,000 hp each round. Sick...

Not bad for a 500 cubic inch engine.

And to really make you cry - a "normal" burnout and 4 second pass costs upwards of $10,000. Engine parts, clutches, tires, Nitro, prep, etc.

Looked it up on NHRA website

Nitro methane funny cars run 7500 to 9000 hp. Takes big balls to strap yourself into something like that.

They have been pushing around 8000hp for awhile now on the nitro burners.

its amazing the kind of power they make. The LS3 in the new camaro would have a hard time just spinning the supercharger alone on those motors.

Yup 1000+hp per cylinder!!! I thought my SS gets bad gas mileage...that level of racing, like a John Force requires SEVERE deep pockets as it isnt cheap to make each run and thats only if you dont break anything, catch fire, crash or blow up anything - then it gets INSANELY expensive.

Top of my bucket list is to meet and shake the hand of John Force, a true legend and one of the greatest drag racers in history!

its amazing how far you can push the limits when a race weekend requires less than a minute of wide open throttle.

Yep, they travel a great distance so quickly that there is a chance of your retinas being detached from the rest of your eye. You wont be catching me in one of those things!
