Bad News

I recieved word this morning from my Union Representative that the UAW is going on strike as of midnight EST tonight. There is a 95% chance that my plant is one of the plants participating. I have to go in to work tonight and be ready to walk at 1100 pm CST. I don't know how you all feel about unions etc. but a strike could affect/backlash production or ramp up of production for our beloved Camaro. Just wanted you all to know. Wish us(GM and the UAW) luck in bringing this to a speedy and mutually beneficial agreement.

I heard that our branch of the UAW hasn't decided what to do yet. They were waiting for a call from somebody to tell them what to do...

This Sux bigtime...and the worst part is, that me - the smartass with all the answers - can't figure out what's best for either party....

So far, as of Today - after the contract expiration - No strikes...so that's a little good news I think!

Nice theory, but I know quite a few people who have actually quit after being hired in here and worked on the line 10 hours a day. When asked most of them say that they couldn't be paid enough to do these jobs. Granted some are easier than others but when you do the same thing 500 plus times in a shift I could see where it would get to some people.

try packing plastic bottles for 12-14 hrs a day (2.5 yrs) taking 1 day off every 2 weeks. on your feet the whole time except for your 30 min lunch or your 3 15 min breaks.
if they give me an 09 if I have to build it. fine by me. lol

i hate mustard bottles btw.

That would drive me nuts!!! For enough money, I wouldn't complain. But, if you can't pay me enough, at least have the freakin courtesy to let me switch between two or three jobs ON the line....so I don't loose my mind! They probaby wouldn't do that due to increased problems in manufacturing, though. You get switched up on the line, you get switched up in the mind...mistake made.

Yup....once your on a job you're pretty much stuck on it, unless someone with more senority decides that your job is easier than his/hers, or needs to be on the shift that you're on. You could feasibly do the same job for 4 to 8 yrs. Install the same 2 or 3 parts and tighten the same 4 or 5 bolts........for years. I thank God I don't do that I would lose my mind.

This is where I just shake my head.. .. you applied for the job knowing what the job would entail and how much you would get paid.. What gives someone the right to bitch about it afterwards?

If you don't like your job quit and get a new one.. and don't tell me there are no jobs, there are. Some just refuse from pride or from being comfortable with a higher standard of living.

Yea I am opening myself up to flames but I could care less.. we have people illegally entering our country to take jobs 90% of people in the USA refuse to do and then those 90% bitch becuase (A) illegals are taking jobs away from americans and (B) there are no jobs.
