Have you tried launch control with the new tires?
Stock pressure in the Pirelli's, I would loose traction if launched above 3200rpm's. I believe the launch control holds it at 4200 rpm's.

That clutch should be just fine as long as you don't slip it too long and build up too much heat or glaze it. If the car is bogging you need to launch at a higher RPM otherwise the sticky tires are counterproductive. The correct RPM to launch a car with radials is the one where you launch hard, the tires don't blaze (light spin is fine) and the RPMs do not drop from where you initially launched. It should pull hard out of the gate. All cars are different, but as an example I would launch an AWD street car at 5500RPM just to get a light spin and go. (Ran 1.5 60fts) anything lower and it would bog and run at least .2-.3 tenths slower.

car
The tires are Drag radial 20 inch mickey thompson (super sticky)
Mods are LS9 cam, OBX headers and cnc GM heads --stock air box drop k/n. I tried 3 times--- 1st at 2500 RPM bog -2.2 60ft, 2nd 3000 RPM BOG AGAIN 2.1 60 ft and 3rd time 3500 RPM - --same thing. Wondering how hi to launch , with out breaking stuff? My cars weight with me in it was 4055 lbs ,so Im making about 460 HP to the wheels --not bad for LS9 cam |

The car's built in launch control will launch you at 4200, which is just about right
for MT. I bet you break 12.4 if your subsequent shifts go well. I'd just launch at 4200 without engaging launch control (all nannies off) and go from there. |

Maybe go a little higher than 3, 500 to get a little spin. Hopefully those HD 1LE axles can take the punishment.

this with everything off. Now that the car is modified, I tried using the launch control it rev up to 5000 rpm which is to high to launch (maybe) dont wanna break anything as axles and fry my clutch. also the tires dont spin very sticky (dead hook)
this at the TRACK not street where stock tires are worthless spin in all 3 gears what are your times with a 1.9 60 ft and are u 6 speed ? |

My best time is a 12.80 around 113 with a 2.1 60'. (good air) I think the two 1.9s I have recorded are around 13 flat. My best run that night was 12.85 at 110 with a 2.1 60'. My shifting 1-2, 2-3 are inconsistent. With good air I should be running under 12.5. But not yet, getting there is the fun part. Everyone experienced running LS3 Camaros say do not use Launch Control. It can break axles and will also pull timing. So run with TC off (one tap) and leave the other nannies on to help you stay in your lane and away from the wall if things get hairy. Question for you. Getting wheel hop? I want to get a '14 1LE and are wondering if I will need to keep some of my suspension mods.

wheel hop
I got zero wheel hop ---100 % traction, too much---can smell my clutch
next time at track I'm not gonna burn out the tires to warm them up and try to launch them cold and maybe spin them out the hole here is how I wanna launch AND NOT BREAK |

You keep saying you don't want to break.
If you are that worried, you should not be drag racing the car on drag tires. You will inevitably break something as that is part of the game. You have modified for more power and added sticky tires. Being that your power is up, you will eventually find the weak link. Drag racing is truelly a pay to play Motorsport. Road racing puts more wear and tear on the tires and brakes, but you avoid the initial shock to the driveline which is what breaks things. Matt

I am not one of the few that can launch and shift a manual (true talented guys can run a second faster with the same car), but do a Google search on "Ranger Drag Racing" and follow his tips. He is one that can.
At 12.8 your tied with Det Duke's LLT V6 best time. The 1 LE has more in it for sure. |
