Wink So I relocated my IAT.

Ok so today I did my relocation of my IAT (Intake Air Temp). I think I have about 25-30 bucks in the whole thing. Rather simple to do.
In the pictures, that I hope post, you can see a difference in temp. I had the car running for a few mins with the hood shut. So in just a few mins you can see the temp difference.

im sure there are other benefits, but one of the reasons for doing this is the ability to reduce having timing pulled due to an increase in engine temps. possibly help advance timing as well.

OP...nice write up btw.

Looks good. Tempted to try this on my CAI Inc Intake, headers put too much heat in the engine bay.

Thanks guys. It was rather easy to do. To answer a few questions. I did this because after the motor warms up to full temp the IAT will read higher Intake temps than what their really is. The reason for this is due to heat soak. So in moving the IAT to a cooler spot you get a much better reading of the air temp coming into the engine with out interference of unwanted heat from the engine bay. I think I have 25 bucks in this mod.

I got the sensor today at O'Rielly, but I have to wait till tomorrow to pick up the pigtail. Did you put sealant around the sensor? I used a 1/2 inch drill bit and the sensor fit tightly in there.

You could use a rubber grommet, but I wouldn't seal it up with rtv. I have this done on my Vararam, and the only question really is where you would like to put the sensor.
I do believe Scrmng did this a few years back. The cooler air the IAT reads, the less timing is pulled.

Where did you do it on the vararam . where did you set up the seperate IAT sensor. can't seem to find a suitable place

yep, what he said - any install instructions that you wouldn't mind sharing on doing this on your Vararam would be much appreciated.
