1988 Iroc Ragtop
I saw this car for sale and was wondering if it was a good deal for $7000. It has a good interior but is faded a bit here and there, 5.0 TPI motor, 150k on the odometer, a hole in the convertable top. Body looks imacculate, engine bay is clean and it had an awesome rumble when I drove it and it drove very well for the year it was.

Well worth the $7,000. There is no way I would take anything less if I had the car.

From the Nada Classic Car Value website.
Original MSRP: $18,015 Retail Low - 3,988 Retail Average - 6,188 Retail High - 12,595 This car is above average even with the tear in the lining. Third gen convertibles in good condition are hard to come by. I believe it it worth ever penny. They pop up on Craigslist occasionally for $5,000 around my area and they look nowhere near as good as this one does. |

Go for it, Irocs are becoming collectible and their prices are just now starting to rise as they get fewer and fewer, the rag tops are even rarer at that, so go for it man, its one hell of an investment ;-)

looks like a repaint. has the IROC-Z decals, but not the stripes. i see one other thing. In 1988 regular Z28's were dropped. All Z's were IROCs through 1990. Now that car has an IROC-Z badge on the bumper, but incorrect Z28 badges on the ground effects. Those should say IROC-Z as well. Might be a real IROC, i'd just look into that.

That really threw me when i read that. I had 89' and 90'IROC's and am very familiar with all things involving them.
http://www.thirdgen.org/1988-chevy-camaro read about Exterior Badges. I also read a 1988 Road and Track article. The pictures clearly showed "IROC-Z" badge on the ground effects. I looked at some more pictures online of 1988 IROC's and they all have IROC-Z badges on the exterior. No Z28. Not sure how to explain yours. |

Other than the decal on the side door the only other location I had the Iroc-Z badge was on the rear bumper with the 5.7 Tune Port Injection logo. |

all 1988-90 had stickers changed all around to IROCZ (Iroc badge on towards back of door). Prior Years from 1985-1987 had Iroc on doors only ( front part of the doors) but Z28 badges on other parts of the body. 1988-90 also had the square shifting knob instead of the round one like 1985 to 1987.
hope this helps. Also $ 7,000 is too much for a car with all those miles, especially if not original and not a 5.7 engine. I know no convertibles were made with the 5.7. Also make sure it's got the multi fuel injection and not carburetor. |
