CEL Light? Need advice
I just threw a CEL light while driving this afternoon. My Car is pretty much stock other then my CAI and Kooks Long tubes with their HF cats. Im just confused as to why the CEL is on now.. If it is because of the headers wouldn't it have happened 3 months ago when i put them on?
What are my options & what kind of advice can you give me! |

If it isn't tuned then yeah you will get a CEL. It doesn't always happen right away but, as you found you will get one at some point unless you tune out the rear 02's

First you need to know what code is set, it's hard to say anything without knowing the code.

No, it would not necessarily have happened three months ago. All headers throw a CEL eventually. It could be right away or months but it will happen. You have two options assuming you are leaving the headers installed:
1. Live with the CEL. It will not hurt anything. 2. Get a tune. A tune will give you better performance in both the engine and transmission. A tune also turns off the rear O2 sensors which is where you are picking up the CEL.

Running headers without a tune will result in a CEL either immediately or eventually. That being said, nothing says that is why the CEL came on. You need to find out what codes have been thrown.

Or your could go to your local auto parts store and have them read the code for you for free.

You've already spent the money for headers and a CAI. You will notice when you get a TUNE. Do it right.

We have seen cars go 6 months or more with no code and others will show a code after just a few miles. Really just depends on the car. But like the others said, get the code read and be sure what you are dealing with before anything.
