Well, it was a good run!
This weekend, I traded my Camaro for a truck. I was at breakfast at a diner in town and across the street is a Chevy dealership. While I was eating, I laid eyes on this new Silverado they had parked front and center.
Two years ago, we moved to rural property, and while the Camaro has been great for commuting to the city, it's just not the kind of all-purpose workhorse that I need to get things done. So I've been riding this line of "should I keep it/ should I sell it", and only having owned it for a year, I didn't want to lose my shorts getting out of it. The new "rig" is a 2015 Silverado LT 4x4 Crew with a short box. It's Slate Gray, and it's an All Star Edition with the 3.42 gears and trailering group. All the options I wanted, none that I didn't. Some people really get in trouble when they roll in and out of car deals, but I think I did ok. You be the judge. The new truck had an MSRP just less than $45,400. With incentives, rebates, and dealer cash, the selling price was $38,300 before tax. In April 2014, I paid $19,200 for my 1LS, new. The dealer gave me $18,500 on trade. Add the sales tax credit of $1647 for a total trade credit of $20,146. (In the year I owned it, I put 15k miles on it, and cracked the front windshield). One of the $1500 rebates on the truck was contingent on taking GM financing. They would only give me a rate of 2.49% for a 48 month term, versus 2.09 through my credit union. It was still advantageous to take the rebate with .4% higher interest, especially since I plan to pay it down quicker than 48 months. (For the Suzie Ormans and Dave Ramseys of the group, I am on track for retirement!) Anyway, it's great to be back in a V8. The 5.3 isn't a fire-breather in a full-size truck, but it makes the right sounds and at 383 ft/lb torque it's not a weakling, either. And although I'm in my mid 30's and in pretty good shape, my knees/back also applaud this decision. This truck is really comfortable for a tall guy like me. No more rubbing my head on the headliner. No more contortionist moves just to get in the vehicle. So, Camaro fans, I am Camaro-less for now. You are a good group of folks and this forum is a good source of entertainment AND information, and while I'm not leaving per se, I do need to immerse myself over at gm-trucks.com. This is my first full-size, and I've got a couple things I want to do to it including swapping out the exhaust, and putting some proper tires on it! |

you upgraded to a nice truck and the trade in is pretty good. your rate isn't that bad, but if you're going to pay it off sooner than you did pretty good.

usually after so many months you can usually re-finance under you CU for the lower rate with no pre-payment penalty

Thanks for the replies, and yes, that is an excellent point. In fact, when talking to my insurance company this morning, they asked if I'd like to refinance at 2.34%, no fees, with included/no-charge gap coverage and deductible payoff if the truck becomes a total loss. Save a couple bucks in interest, get free money if the truck is destroyed! Now I need to go read the fine print on the rebate terms.

refinance immediately to ur cu with the lower rate if the dealer financing agreement didnt lock u in. I may have done that and may have saved 1% on loan term. Its not tons, but didnt cost a penny to refinance so free money. plus my money is now local.

I keep my Avalanche for winter, rainy days and hauling stuff. I don't think I could do without a truck.

What they said. ^ I've been looking at Silverado's and Colorado's to replace my DD 4x4.
