...so looking for any pointers or *Ah-ha*'s to look out for in removing the automatic transmission. I've found plenty of threads on the manual, but not the automatic.

Also, any recommendations on a replacement seal?

Due to this car having the KaTech Engineering Stage IV kit installed in it, GM does not honor the warranty (which is COMPLETE and TOTAL B.S.!)

guaranteed the crankcase is pressurizing and caused the oil leak. Add a crankcase breather or mighty mouse catch can with breather to alleviate the crankcase pressure. The extra boost is the culprit.

Seriously.

IMHO, Yes. According to KaTech, they've performed this mod to plenty of CTS-V's and have never had a rear main leak. Given that they were NASCAR's "Engine builder of the year" from 1995-1997, I believe that they know what they're doing.

Agree. Purchased and installed the Elite Engineering E2-X catch can back in June.

The E2-X will eliminate any possible crankcase pressure issues w/out a breather breaking the system to vent. To replace the rear main seal, the trans is not hard to drop out either way, for the auto take the bolts loose that attach the torque converter to the flex-plate and then after unhooking cooler lines and harness and shifter, un bolt from engine and slide back a few inches and it will drop down.

For manual, you can disconnect harness and shifter and the hydraulic line for the release bearing and pull it out of the clutch/PP, but the input shaft requires you to come back a bit further before you can drop it down. Use a seal puller to remove the old one, and make sure the new one is tapped into place evenly with a proper sized seal installer if you have one. Put NO sealer on the seal, clean rear cover area where the seal seats and then install it dry.

Yes they do, however it's only 12 mo./12K miles. The work was done during 2013 via the original owner. I did not procure the car until April 11, 2015.

Gm part # 12639250. Its the whole rear plate with the gasket and the rear main. Thats the best way to do it.

The Timken part from Summit would be good. They are a well known manufacturer of seals and bearings. The GM part is most like made by Timken.
