F*!@$ IT! It's time to delete the cats, What are we putting in?

2011 V6 LLTRS.

Deleting the cats, tired of chasing p0420/p0430 Been chasing this code since literally 50k.

What should I put in place of it assuming I'm going to keep it longer? I know I can just do the anti-foulers but let's maybe have some fun with it. What's good to put in?

I had the same codes. I had to go a full size spacer, and one anti-fouler
to get rid of the P0430, and just one spacer on the passenger side for
P0420. I also had to put factory sensors in, Bosch ones did not work.
Once I put the factor one in the driver side, the P0430 went away. That
was even with the spacers, till I changed the sensor.

Now, I have no cats.

spyderbuddy; Post how those long tubes work, tune or not, and so on. I can
get a set for $200.. Not ceramic coated, but a set that looks just like that..

NO, he's basically giving up and putting headers on.

P0430/20 has no effect on air:fuel ratios, and does not effect the motor
or car in any way. That is just a cat code, that means they are no longer
working properly; too much oxygen in the exhaust. That is usually because
the media isn't effective anymore or it has deteriorated and the flow is
faster through the exhaust.

When the downstream sensors start getting the same readings as the
upstream, is when the code is set. So, deleting cats will make the
condition worse as far as what the O2 sensors see.

The secondary cats are not monitored.

This car almost needs CARB cats to get rid of those codes. Aftermarket
cats will not work, and hi-flow will do the same thing. I had this issue with
the OEM cats, and the replacement cats. So, yeah, I chopped the
2ndaries off, and gutted the primaries. That was just about done for me
anyway, the cats they put on it were so bad, there was no material in the
2ndary cat. That was what clogged my driver side muffler. Took a while
to blow that out. Those assholes had my car for TEN weeks, and could
only get rid of the P0420, why? Because there was a factory sensor on
that side, and a Bosch on the other, even though they TOLD ME the car
demanded AC delco, they didn't use them. I fixed in ONE HOUR what they
could not do in ten weeks... Sad...

I had to use Spacers I got from eBay, PLUS one anti-fouler, to get rid
of the codes, and use FACTORY O2 sensors. Being that far out, you will
then get heater codes in the winter, and low voltage codes. So, it worked
fine in the summer, with low voltage and heater codes in the winter.. Oh,
one spacer on the passenger side, and one spacer + antifouler on the
driver side... Odd, but that worked with cheap Canadian aftermarket
cats.

So it sounds like I’ll still have these codes even if I delete my cats.

I’m on my 3rd set of sensors, cats, and even a few other components and I still have this code.

Wtf do I do?

If you don't have to worry about inspections then go for the bbk long tube headers, have them on my car, and tune out the check engine light. The long tubes sound great and gave it a little boost in power.

I have required inspections in my state, which I will fail with any CEL on or even not-ready on the monitors.

I need this resolved and to be able to pass inspection by the end of the month. I'm on my 3rd set of cats and every mechanic I bring it to says 'replace cats, keep using warranty on the cat until it stops coming back'.

The codes keep coming up.

My other option is to sell the car.

Anyone resolve this problem? I’m having same issue of required inspection in my state where I will fail with any CEL on or even not-ready on the monitors. I was told that it is not possible to get a catless LLT to pass because of the Bosche ECU. It was explained to me like this: If the cats are removed, basically they can tune the CEL code out but the readiness monitor will never ready up for exhaust and possibly also get an O2 code and that monitor won’t ready up either. So with that said I can never pass inspection because of the monitors.
I currently have “mini cat O2 sensors” from Big Daddies Garage, which someone recommended to me worked for them (but they had a V8). They are installed in my post (rear/secondary) O2 factory sensors as the instructions state but I still get the CEL codes unfortunately.

^AlanRubin—You mentioned you were able to use spacers and an anti-fouler to get rid of the codes, can you drop a link to where you purchased those items so I can do the same?

The alternative I was considering was buying just a pair of universal primaries and using v-bands to swap them out with the straight pipe for the purpose of passing inspection only.

GhostOutlaw—Did you ever find a solution?
