Exclamation Removing HF Cats from my Exhaust Setup: How much Louder?

Hey everyone!

So I have a 2014 SS M6. I have ARH 1 7/8 Headers along with there High Flow Cats, and X pipe. I then have Borla S type mufflers. I plan to boost the car and will be getting rid of the cats.

I am wondering, how much louder will the car be if I remove the HF Cats? Will it be significantly louder? I do not care if it has more rasp in the upper RPM range and the smell. Just trying to decide if I will have to modify the exhaust system to quiet it down. Any help, info, or experience would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I did not notice a huge difference removing mine. Went a similar route in front of stock catback...LTs with Hi flo, then gutted the HF cats when I went S/C.

She revs up alot faster post boost, but to me, the sound from Hi flo cats to offroad pipes was marginal.

Said differently, it does increase the decibels but for me it wasn't enough to matter.

Worse case add some small bullet resonators later if you dont like it.

Most likely won't be a huge difference, but definitely noticeable.

Probably not much louder, just a difference in tone.

You'll get all of the rasp with a bit more volume

Boost it, delete the cats and add e85. Your exhaust will smell like Iowa corn fields.

My thoughts exactly. I yanked mine for the same reason, it was louder but not nearly as much as I thought it would be. I can't say it really changed the sound all that much either. The biggest difference I (and everyone else) noticed was the stank. It's pretty potent, and it clings to you. I'm definitely looking forward to the e85 conversion.

JK though. It's pure exhaust and it smells.

Like all the other cars I've owned and cat deleted, the rasp is very noticeable around 3k rpm vs with cats. But, she purs like a kitten from 4-5k rpm.

Hey everyone, I just want to say thanks for all the feedback on this I really appreciate it! The overall consensus seems to be it won't be that much louder, so I think that would be fine for me.
