Drag setup suggestions

Trying to do something on the cheap (I know thats a relative term). I live about 1-1.5 hours from a strip.

Would putting DRs on the stock rims and just driving it that way be a bad idea (car never sees rain)? How fast would I wear through the tires?

If I get a set of extra rims, any suggestions for something less expensive?

Search for ProStock John's sticky post on wheel tire combinations.

First, that is to far (IMHO) to drive even on DR's..when they get hot all the good sticky icky resins start to come out causing the tire tire lose effectiveness faster...better to drive and switch at the track like many do but your call...I kept checkin craigslist and scored NT05R's and ordered a couple of inexpensive(not cheap to b clear) rims off of amazon...setup work's and gives me a chance to get a good "learnin" experience with traction...may move to slicks in the future but for now this gets me to my track...sorry..10 min away so I can drive to it...main concern is proper set back for clearance..and don't bother with anything more than an 18...better 17...best 15 but $$$$ more...

For me it would depend on how much power you're making. If you're relatively stock, an NT05R on the stock 20" would be my choice. If you're pushing 650-700+ RWHP, then I'd say to grab a set of 17" rears with an 325 M&H Racemaster or similar. Note that racing on a slick/extreme drag radial like the M&H will be very hard on the drivetrain if you hook. In fact if you dead hook with nannies off at 700+ HP, you'll break something.

I'm at ~630 rwhp now. Plan it to get to 700+ by next year if the $$ allows. I have an A6
