Any trouble getting a test drive? - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I've been to 3 dealers now to look at Camaros. I'm not looking for a thrill ride, I am a serious buyer and would like to test drive a car. While this is a high-demand, fast car, it's not a Ferrari.

First dealer I went to basically said "no, we do not offer test drives." They had 1 SS and 1 LT. The guy basically said the cars will sell within the week and someone else will be taking them home soon so we want to preserve them for that buyer. He also said, people that want to buy this car don't care how it drives, they want it for what it is. I also told him I would order a 6 speed manual and the one I was looking at was auto and "it would be a different experience anyway."

Second dealer only had one in the showroom, said no and would not elaborate further.

Third dealer (who I will likely order from) did not have any to test.

Did you guys have problems getting a test drive? Or did you just order "sight-unseen?"

Only sat in one here.... NO test drive, and going on faith...

I didnt bother asking (I am under 30) so I figured it was a lost cause. I figure when I am really ready I will just show up in my GTR and they should know that I am not a tire kicker when I roll up in a car that is worth a decent amount more than the car I am looking at.

Yes....I've run into somewhat of the same thing. The dealership I'm looking at has approx 150 on order right now...so everyone that comes in is a customer's car. They'll let you sit and look but now rides. Sucks for us wanting to buy but I completely understand because they are customer cars I wouldn't want them taking my car out on a test drive before I took possession.

What I've done is asked people from our local Gen 5 group if someone would let me meet with them and really check out the car, go for a ride, take my wife for a ride, etc. Luckily we have a nice group of guys...tomorrow I'll be taking a member up on the offer and if for some reason that didn't work out I've had a couple other offers to take a close look at our next get together in a week. The cool thing is the one I hope to take a ride in tomorrow has already had the same kind of mods I'll be doing so it'll be better than just going to a dealership....Can't wait for tomorrow after work!!!

I have given a few people rides that are interested. I have offered to let them drive, but they are afraid of something happening. Like I would beat them up or something, they can't be serious..........

....OK, maybe a slight beating, nothing too harsh!

i don't think anybody is going to let you just test drive it, the dealer was straight up with you people don't want a brand new camaro with 50+ miles on it

i've had the same thing happen when i went to go check out a challenger they told me the same thing

they essentially do not give test drives on the SS. I sat in it and started it up, revved a few times, that's it. But I did manage to get a test drive in the V-6 when the had the national unveiling day at the dealers.

I agree with why they do it, just curious how you guys felt about buying without driving. Who is near Delaware that is willing to meet up?!

only got to sit in one before i ordered the one i wanted all the cars they are getting in belong to someone except for thoes who bail out of the order.

The only test I got was sitting in one at the International car show in Feb. and the battery was disconnected so I couldn't adjust the seat. My head was touching the roof and still ordered it in march. Sweated till the car came cause I thought I wasn't going to fit. I did. But I would of kept the car regardless.
Just order it. You won't be disappointed. Drives great. I have no complaints.
