Question.....I have read some things about Mustang dyno's not being very accurate. Is this true? I want to get a baseline and the shop that I was planning on going to has a Mustang. Should I seek out a dynojet? What should I expect for a stock vert LS3?

Thanks for any help

i wouldn't worry so much about what dyno you are on, you should use it as a tuning tool. each and every dyno will read different. what you are looking for is performance gains, so if you get a base line at that dyno then you should continue to use that dyno to check the gains from the parts you install. as far as what to expect from your baseline you should be in the 360-365 rwhp range, it is typically a 15% loss in the drive train 426*.85=rwhp

sspaul is right about the dyno being just a testing tool, however you're going to see higher "before and after" numbers on a Dynojet.

First Dyno Tune

Had mine dyno tuned today! My local shop uses HP Tuners. I don't even have LT Headers yet! My mods are listed below! I'm very happy with the results!

Just completed my baseline run this afternoon. Car is completely stock with 1450 miles on the OD. I am sure the temperature didn't help, just wonder how much better it would have run if it had been 75 degrees vice 100 degrees. I have ARH 1 7/8 LTs, hi flow cats, and CAI intake that I plan to install this weekend, then tune with SCT tune from Jannetty. Really looking forward to documenting my gains.

Chris

Figured I'd add my dyno to the official thread as well. This shows a baseline pull (stock except for JBA axleback), then a second pull after adding a vararam intake and vmax TB.

Peak Gains: 10HP, 15Tq

OK, so I posted this in another area and got some advice. I didn't see this thread until after so I'm going to post it here as this appears to be the right place.

Below is my dyno for a bone stock LS3 vert. You will notice a huge dropoff in the run. There was NO shift or step off the gas during the test. The tuner said it was due to the knock sensor pulling power. According to him, all the gen 5's do this. He recommended a tune. I told him that I wasn't ready to void my warranty, he replied with "no problem, bring it back in before you take it to the dealership and we'll flash it back to stock". At that point I realized that he didn't know much about Camaros and didn't tell him about the flash counter.

In the other post, the general concesus was that the tuner was either inexperienced or threw the test in order to sell me a tune.

Can anyone comment on whether this is a glitch, sabatage, or do I have something wrong with my car? I've never noticed any drop during spirited driving. All comments are welcome. BTW, it was 95 degrees with very high humidity and was done on a Mustang Dyno.

From what I've heard, the knock retard that is pulling timing like on your graph is caused by bad gas. Make sure you're putting high quality high octane fuel (93 whenever possible) in from a good company (and a busy station that won't have gas sitting in the tanks for months). I've been told to use BP, Sunoco, Amaco, etc. And never Citgo or Shell. As you an see from my dyno graph right above yours, not all ls3s do that. But he's not manipulating the dyno to sell you a tune either. It is fairly common.
