Wow, that so much reminds me of a typical day on the way to college a couple of decades ago. Profs to the driver for lugging around a sizable pair of kahoneys.

The thing that most strikes me is that this 3rd gen MR suspension is nothing short of ZARKING MIRACULOUS.

From watching the vid, I do believe a few more seconds could be shaved off - but with a preliminary 7:41 I'm in no way complaining. I would wager that when the official time comes out it will be under 7:40.

I was lower than almost everyone when I guessed 7:47. Happily I was wrong.

2013 GT500

The preproduction 2013 GT500 has been seen running the ring since early Jun this year but hasn't posted any official times yet (heard rumors of mid 7:40s but just rumors for now). If they can beat the ZL1 time I'm sure we'll see it in the press soon. Silence on Ford's part will indicate they can't and they will likely try to tweak the new GT500 some more before production (sorry sports fans but I’d expect an increase in price as well). Any way you slice it this type of competition is good for both Camaro and Mustang fans since lessons learned from the ZL1 and GT500 will also lead to improvements in the both the SS and GT (2012 SS suspension has already upgraded based on lessons learned from the ZL1). Long live the pony wars.

A pic of the 2013 GT500 testing on the ring, too bad they couldn't run it and the ZL1 at the same time. I would have paid to see that.

start

He was doing like 65 mph when the timer started. I thought you had to start from a dead stop and start when you get the green light or a gunshot? Anyone know how the timing works?

I wonder if 172 mph is the electronically limited top speed or they disabled the governor for this track to get a better time?

That's the standard rolling start That's how it's pretty much done now. Some of the older times were not run in the manner though...

I don't think it was limited because it was pretty much at redline if you looked at the tach' reading. I've been wondering if it will pull to top speed in 6th, because I'm pretty sure that was fifth, just following the gear changes around the track...

At the green hell, every one start with a rolling start, it's like qualification in
F1. They do a warm up lap and then one attempt (most of the time)
Remember it's almost 8 minutes long x 2 laps, it's very demanding for a time attack.
Notice the start and the finish line are different, the start line is at the end of the chicane and the finish is at the entrance.
It's the slowest part of the circuit, it's realy not an issue.
