18" wheels on ZL1

I wonder if 18 inch wheels will clear the calipers and rotors for drag racing setup?

Wait and see , or yes it will, you just have to take those huge brakes out , yeah that will do it

Yeah I think the brakes on the zl1 are overkill. On battle of the supercars tv show fastlanes 1000rwhp camaro ss with stock brembos out braked the 1000 rwhp shelby with huge rotor and caliper upgrade. I may have to put a set of ss brakes on my zl1 for drag racing.

It's not overkill, when your on the track braking lap after lap then you need strong fade resistant brakes. If your just into drag racing then yea it's not really that important.

Your money, but why would you take a 50k+ car and turn it into just a 1/4 mile car? 1ss would be a much cheaper place to start.

My 1ss was $32505 sticker plus forged internals whipple sc tranny and rearend upgrade shops like livernois and lingenfelter are telling me $40k-45k so thats $72-77k for a dependable 600-800rwhp car. So if I can pulley cam heads headers intake and tune my zl1 for $12,000 that puts me at $62-67k thats a 10k savings and I have a badass looking zl1 camaro. The zl1 should have 500rwhp so if I can add 100-150 rwhp for 12k on top of a 50k sticker save 10k and have the upgrades that the zl1 has over a 1ss then hell yeah ill put 18 in wheels/drag radial setup on it.

I have a feeling the zl1 will be mod friendly...i dont see it costing 12k for 100-150 hp.

Aren't there guys aleeady running 18s? If Nineball chimes in, I'm sure he had a lead or two. Maybe just swap to V6 brakes for the track and call it good?

you can run 17's on the Camaro rear brembo's and the cts-v rear brembos if you get the right wheel with no modifications. Assuming the ZL1 will use a similar rear brake to the cts-v I don't see why a purpose made 17 wouldn't work.

My research turned up that you can easily get 150 extra HP by adding a cam, upgraded pulley, and porting the heads. Problem with the LSA is that when taken past 700 HP you better begin thinking about forging the internals or it wont last. Chew up the meat - spit out the bones!

Yeah - they gave us a good crank, but it's not known yet if we're getting hyper' pistons and steel rods. Because we're seeing most SC'd LS3/L99 cars pushing 150+ more horse' through the stock long blocks and not having many more problems than fuel issues (using "base" SC pulleys), I think a similar safety factor would apply to LSA, and give the tests it's passed with flying colors, I'm sure even if we were given pretty much the same short block as CTS-Vs, that expecting 700 FWHP is still going to be relatively safe so long as fuel and tuning are up to snuff.

JMVHO.

For what it's worth I wish my gt500 had better brakes. I would not say brakes are an overkill at all. I have brembos in the front but just regular mustang gt brakes in the back. I know I can fit a 15" drag wheel in the back which I believe is the ideal size for drag racing. I don't think you want to go bigger than 17". MAybe that is why Ford but such small brakes in the back taking drag racing into consideration. But, whatever the case may be I wish i had a better brake package or at least better rears. Not sure how the brembos on the front of the gt500 compare to that of the SS or CTS-v.

When you are tracking a 4000 lb car for just a little bit and I mean just a little, you would be suprised how fast your brakes will fade.
