Camaro Rear Vision Camera Systems

Hey Everyone,

I just came across a post form IVS auto about their brand new camaro rear vision camera systems. I have never seen anything like this before for a camaro. It looks like a pretty cool product and they are having a drawing to give one away. I want one. Check it out. What do you guys think about it?

I have been thinking about getting a rear camera for a while and looking at what is out there. I had found several mirrors that would integrate the camera display - but also wanted to keep the auto dimming feature and the Onstar functionality. This system seems to fit the bill. My only question would be whether it still allows the side mirror to dim.

The best price I have found for this is here:

Have you purchased it and installed it yet? Just wondering how well it works.

I sure wish that factory would offer this option or one like it. It would be much more usable that the chirping back-up alarm they now have.

Becky mentioned in a post a week or so ago that a back up camera was part of the proposed changes to the 2012 models.

I installed one of the Peak wireless units that was $70. Works well enough!

It would be a great addition, but the price tag seems steep. $600+ for an aftermarket just doesn't seem worth it to me. Just my .02

I just picked up the same unit (on sale for $49). Where did you end up mounting the display?

Actually, it would depend on how much plug and play that system is. If it interfaces cleanly with the auto dimming for the side mirror and with Onstar, I would say that is a pretty good price. I was looking at purchasing just a rear view mirror with auto dim and display for around $400. Then add in the camera and all the wiring with connectors, it could be worth $600. It would be worth it to not have to trace wires and splice into existing lines. I found the install instructions online and it looks pretty straigh forward.

Plus not having an extra display cluttering up your dash.

I wonder if the Chevy dealers will be able to retrofit them....even so won't be cheap, trying to keep my eyes out for a Traverse screen-equipped rear view mirror for a decent price in preparation.

Standard suction cup at the top of the front window, just to the left of the rear-view mirror. Ran the power wire through the headliner down to the fuse box.
